I had one theme I had wanted to present to you today but after reading several other articles, it changed.  It is a New Year after all so we are all entitled to new thoughts and ideas and also new practices. The first one is a daily meditation I receive (you can too) from a famous Franciscan priest. Fr. Richard Rohr https://cac.org.   To me, it is such an example of what we all wish our world to be that it felt very important to share with you.

A School for Love
Friday, January 3, 2020

Today, friend and CAC faculty member Brian McLaren continues describing the three shifts Christianity needs to make in order to be true to the vision and mission of Jesus the Christ. Yesterday Brian explained the importance of becoming (1) “decentralized and diverse.” Today, he describes the need to be (2) “radically collaborative” and to (3) “love as Jesus taught and embodied.” Rather than a top-heavy institution concerned about in-house salvation, the Christianity of the future will place love of God, neighbor, self, and all creation at the center. Brian writes:

The diverse and decentralized movement we need will be radically collaborative, working with, across, and, when necessary, outside of and in spite of existing institutions to seek the common good. It will not be anti-institutional because institutions are necessary for human survival, but neither will it be institutional, in the sense that it is preoccupied with its own survival or bringing benefits only to its members. Rather, it will be trans-institutional, working across institutions, both religious and non-religious, seeking the common good of those inside and outside the movement and the institutions it involves. . . .

The . . . most important aspect of this [new] form of Christianity in the future is simple, obvious, and yet radical: it is about love, as Jesus taught and embodied [emphasis mine—RR]. . . .

The New Testament makes it abundantly clear that Jesus was about love first and foremost, in word and deed. Jesus began with love for God, but inseparably linked that love with love for neighbor [1], with the understanding that neighbor includes the other, the outsider, the outcast, the last, the least, the lost, the disgraced, the dispossessed, and the enemy. This love for neighbor was, in turn, inextricably related to an appropriate love for self. In fact, to love neighbor as oneself leads to the realization that oneself and one’s neighbor are actually distinct yet inseparable realities. In today’s world, we must add that, for Jesus, God’s love extends to the wildflower, the meadow grass, the sparrow, and the raven. He saw all of God’s creatures as part of one heavenly realm, as did dear St. Francis, and as do more and more of us.

When I think of this [new] kind of Christianity of the future, then, I think of a movement of revolutionary love. I see it as distinctively Christian, but not in any exclusive way, because if we truly see love as Jesus’ point and passion, then the depth of our devotion to Christ will always lead us to love our Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Indigenous, nonreligious, agnostic, atheist, and other neighbors as ourselves. . . .

In this desirable future, every willing Christian congregation makes every competing interest subsidiary to love, which is the fruit of all contemplation and the goal of all action. If we embody this [emergent] form of Christianity, . . .  if we become the seeds of a movement of contemplative activism in the Spirit of Christ, I can imagine hundreds of thousands of congregations, . . . each a locally and globally engaged school of love, teaching future generations to discover, practice, and live in love: love for our neighbor, love for ourselves, love for all creatures and all creation—all comprising love for God, who is all in all in all.

Things that make you smile is such a great way to begin this New Year of Newsletters.  I hope you enjoy them and allow yourself to smile. It was almost like de ja vue when all 3 of these reflected what Fr. Rohr has just finished sharing with me.

Oh no!  I did it again.  I am late again.  Please smile as I learned again to relax and go with the flow.  Since I was late because of physical therapy, etc. some videos became available for you that were not available earlier. Of course, I needed to listen to them first as I do not like to send anything to you that I have not checked out first.  Since 2019 is in only a few days, many seers are sending us their forecasts.  This one from Lee Harris is a very good one.  Please listen if you have the chance, you can even save it for New Year’s Day if that is better for you.

Of course, Jamye Price is one of my favorites and she adds a new delicious flavor to what we hope to experience. She has one word for us that will make 2019 a lot easier  to go through and also to have fun with as we allow ourselves to relax and see what the  Universe  has in mind for us.

You and I are filled with empathy, even as we do not recognize it.  I still have to remind myself to check where the emotions are coming from and that practice lessens the amount of time I am in them.  This is a very good explanation of where we as children started to blame ourselves for feeling the way we do.  Jim Self has one  word  that will explain and it is easy to remember.

I just love the ocean and all that it does for humanity.  Humanity though has not treated it as the treasure it is.  I was thrilled to read about this as it is the beginning of our ocean returning to its original creation.

Do you believe in miracles?  Here is one that is well documented so there is no reason NOT to believe.  Hurray.

Would you like to see a visual of another miracle of love?  Boy, did it express and expand the love of caring for the downtrodden as a symbol of creation in nature that is in every human.  Miracles  show up in the most unusual places.

I wish you a New Year of Miracles.  Love to you and yours.

I hope your Christmas of 2017 was the best one yet. Of course, we know that there are many surprises and some you could have done without but it would not be the season if there were not surprises along the way.

Wow, is it cold?  We have so many nights that are below zero and the day’s temperature does not go up that much.  Yet, if I had a choice between snow and the cold, I would take the cold.  The sun still shines brightening my spirits and I don’t have to shovel.  I just need to layer up or bundle up as my parents would say. Driving is also much easier as long as you have a good battery.  One of the things I allowed myself was a car starter.  I have a 2004 Rav4 and it did not have an alarm so I had one installed and I got a bonus that I did not know about. I can open the garage door and push the START button from my key chain and my car starts up and gets warm without me having to go outside.  I feel like I am spoiled as I remember so many times I had to go outside and shovel before I could get to my car.  My garage in one of my extravagances that I treasure.

It has been so cold and I was wondering when the ice fisherman were going to get out on the lake.  It is wise not to go out on the ice until you see the fishermen out there.  They make a hole with a saw and can tell how thick the ice is.  Two days ago, there were two fishermen out there and today there are about 5.  They are out there without even the shelter that I see many fishermen use. That is dedication to their sport.

I think we deserve a laugh to open our hearts and heads that have been frozen due to the cold.  Since I am a senior, I laugh even harder as I know I have been in a  situation  like this with my computer and TV.

I know that this gathering was done in 2009 yet we can now see that it was  effective.  Perhaps we could all do it again, anyone up to the task?  It was 156 countries then, how many can we get now to join and get this message out: “All you need is Love”. This is truly all you need and a great way to start the New Year. Let’s spread this far and wide and watch it go viral on social media.

Do these two little girls know  something  we adults don’t?  My New Year’s wish is that all of us believe what they are telling us.  After all, It has only been a short while these two souls (or should I say one soul?) were with God, Source or whatever you call the Creator.

A message from Archangel Michael that sets the tone for the New Year.  Listen up and be gentle with yourself, you deserve it and your gentleness will spread all over the planet.

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here are steps that you can take to make sure your year begins on the right purrfect foot. Anything that begins with laughter is definitely creative, new and on the  purrfectly  right path.
