SNOWBOUND

Well, I am snowed in, how about you?  Living on a lake is heaven most of the time but not in a snowstorm.  The wind is so strong and the temps are so low that my storm door glass is frozen ice from top to bottom on the inside.  I went out 5 times yesterday to clear my stoop before the snow could get higher than the door because then I am really “snowed in”.  I got up this morning and I am “snowed in”.  I can’t see out because of the ice and I can’t open the door to either get out or to look out. I have two young men who come to plow and shovel me out but since this is a bad storm, it will be much later. They have quite a few commercial accounts in the neighboring state ( I border Ct) and they usually get to me at the end of their jaunt with the snow.  I was extremely grateful to them that they plowed me Christmas morning before my kids came.

With the kind of constant wind we are having, I am not sure even if they plowed and shoveled me if it would last.  It is so funny to see bare sand on the beach, brown snow in my yard, snowmobiles having a ball bobbing up and down as they slide over the dunes of snow on the lake. My yard and driveway look like a whiter desert with all the designs and beauty of the sand in a desert. I just wish there was something I could do to keep my stoop clear of snow when it is windy.  Any suggestions?  So far, no one has been able to come up with a solution for me. The sun is out so maybe my storm door window will thaw and the ice around the door will thaw so at least I can feel less trapped inside. But…why would I want to go out in this kind of weather anyway?  It’s all in the mind, just the fact that I can’t get out of my house makes me feel trapped but I am not.  I am fed and warm and safe.

The sun is out and shining in my home.  My storm door glass is now thawed so I can wipe it clean and see even more of the beautiful designs the winds are creating. I am going to sun bathe here in my home and bring back the summer feeling while the wind is creating whirlwinds of snow right outside my window.  It is beautiful when I get out of my mind and just enjoy the beauty as well as getting Vitamin D.

NEW YEAR’S LAUGHTER & GLEE

I hope your Christmas of 2017 was the best one yet. Of course, we know that there are many surprises and some you could have done without but it would not be the season if there were not surprises along the way.

Wow, is it cold?  We have so many nights that are below zero and the day’s temperature does not go up that much.  Yet, if I had a choice between snow and the cold, I would take the cold.  The sun still shines brightening my spirits and I don’t have to shovel.  I just need to layer up or bundle up as my parents would say. Driving is also much easier as long as you have a good battery.  One of the things I allowed myself was a car starter.  I have a 2004 Rav4 and it did not have an alarm so I had one installed and I got a bonus that I did not know about. I can open the garage door and push the START button from my key chain and my car starts up and gets warm without me having to go outside.  I feel like I am spoiled as I remember so many times I had to go outside and shovel before I could get to my car.  My garage in one of my extravagances that I treasure.

It has been so cold and I was wondering when the ice fisherman were going to get out on the lake.  It is wise not to go out on the ice until you see the fishermen out there.  They make a hole with a saw and can tell how thick the ice is.  Two days ago, there were two fishermen out there and today there are about 5.  They are out there without even the shelter that I see many fishermen use. That is dedication to their sport.

I think we deserve a laugh to open our hearts and heads that have been frozen due to the cold.  Since I am a senior, I laugh even harder as I know I have been in a  situation  like this with my computer and TV.

I know that this gathering was done in 2009 yet we can now see that it was  effective.  Perhaps we could all do it again, anyone up to the task?  It was 156 countries then, how many can we get now to join and get this message out: “All you need is Love”. This is truly all you need and a great way to start the New Year. Let’s spread this far and wide and watch it go viral on social media.

Do these two little girls know  something  we adults don’t?  My New Year’s wish is that all of us believe what they are telling us.  After all, It has only been a short while these two souls (or should I say one soul?) were with God, Source or whatever you call the Creator.

SURPRISES FROM YULETIDE

This has been a season of changes for me.  I tried to get one last jaunt in my kayak but the wind and water did not cooperate but I am fortunate that I can see the water from inside my home. I even rearranged my living room (again) so I can see the lake while I am sitting watching TV (as long as the night has not rolled in yet). My sofa was just too tall for me to sit and still be able to see over the back  to see my favorite reason for still being in this cold weather.

I have been in bird shock for three months as my favorite bird, the golden finch, disappeared from my feeders. Imagine feeling abandoned by wild birds. I asked many people and have called the Bird Store several times and I get the same reason.  There is so much natural food for them like berries and nuts that they are not coming to the feeders. In my 21 years here, this had never happened before. I finally gave up my search for them after all this time and a few have come back occasionally.  I surprised myself that I was so depressed because I could not see my favorite birds and I missed their molting back to the duller colors of the females. Yet…I have many other different birds like the Tufted Titmouse, White Breasted Nuthatch and Black Capped Chickadee.  I am human and do not like change but I am accepting the change (do I have a choice?)

This year is also the year of the Canadian Geese.  I awoke one morning and when I looked out; I saw an armada of around 200 geese in front of the beach.  They were not pooping on the beach though; they kept putting their butts in the air as they were pecking at grass under the water.  My local geese were there but the bulk of the geese were migrating south so they were stocking up on food under the water. One morning I was up early enough to see them all fly in formation to the lake and then watched as they parted in groups to different parts of the lake to feed near shore. The migrant ducks were here for three weeks but they have since left because of the cold, I think. I really am fortunate and have no reason to be disappointed in anything yet I do miss the antics of the golden finch. They gave me a reason to always be looking out the windows.

Do you have a loved one who only likes practical gifts?  This article gave me so much info on things that I did not know existed.  Even if I am not aware of how to use them, someone younger in my family will know.  Imagine their surprise to get one of these items and the knowledge that I will also receive.  Who knows, maybe I will get  one  of these for me.

We are in the midst of a lot of preparation for Christmas.  One preparation that you may not be aware of is the energy you can use in preparation for the Winter Solstice.  I was not aware of just what an opportunity we have at this time.  Do you remember 12-12?  Well, Archangel Gabriel is giving advice on how to use this powerful time to your best benefit. I know this is adding another thing for you to do but it can be as small as 2 minutes a day and you will be rewarded greatly. Let’s bring in the LIGHT.

Do you know someone with dyslexia?  A font has been created just for them to make it much easier for them to understand what they are reading.  Isn’t it great that we live in a time of such great inventions? Pass the  word along.

Here is a perfect example of how tragedy brought out compassion and love in 12th graders.  The children are not aware yet of the greatest lesson they ever learned from their beloved teacher. This is the true  meaning  of Christmas.

Ok, Ok, I am going down memory lane.  Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?  Do you remember your Christmases as a child?  We thought it was agonizing to wait soooo long for it to get here but we certainly did a lot of smiling.
