WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE?

Beloved,

I am in a quandary right now because I know everyone is thinking about the upcoming election. I want to offer some simple truths or beliefs but I can’t find any. I treasure my freedom to vote and I wouldn’t give up that choice even when my stepchildren threatened to kill me and I was told that when I moved, I would have to reregister to vote with my new address which would then be public or I would not be allowed to cast my ballot. As frightened as I was that I would be found, I could not give away the very thing that makes our country great; the ability to cast a ballot and have a say so in my government. So many people died to give me that privilege and we women fought hard and long for that freedom, I just could not let their lives and efforts be in vain.

Something we seemed to have forgotten is that: “WE, THE PEOPLE” is you and I. We outnumber all the politicians and they would not have a job if we did not give it to them. We are that powerful. Why do we give that POWER away so freely and easily? We all are aware that money runs our country but did you ever think or realize that you vote every time you buy something. All the 1% considers is the bottom line which is profit. Are you aware that if we all decided not to buy something, say a brand of coffee, for instance, that they would be out of business. There would be no one to sell that product to so there would be no need for that company. From now on, when you pull out your wallet or credit card, be aware that you are VOTING for that product and whoever profits from that sale. Who or what are you blindly voting for and giving permission to run your life?

We all know that Congress is the real power behind our government and we voted them in. The only power the President has is the power to push that button to start a nuclear war without the Congressional approval. Whose thumb do you want on that button? I, for one, do not want any more of our husbands, sons, nephews, cousins or any male be made to go to war. Wait a minute; I forgot that females are in the armed services now so a draft would entail all eligible young men and women. Ladies, have we not had enough losses in our family? The newer generations have lost the awareness of what war is because it has not been in our country. They have no idea what a world that would be to live in. I know because I lived in the last World War and instead of butter we had lard in a tube in which we broke open a yellow capsule and proceeded to squish it until it was all yellow. That was our butter. Hey, younger ones, would you like to eat that? That was minor compared to missing our loved ones who were exposed to death every day. A nuclear war would take out all phones, computers, every convenience you can think of. What would you do then?

I am so adamant about voting because that is one choice no one can take away from you here in America, you can only refuse to choose and yet by not voting, you do choose. You choose to never be able to complain about our government or what is happening in the world. We are so fortunate to have this freedom while other parts of our world would give anything to have that precious choice. Wars are in existence right now so that the citizens can have what we already have. Do you want what they have or will you vote? When you go to the polls, seek deep in your heart not in your head for the right choice. You will know and feel which person is best and that goes for all the other votes you will pass besides the Presidential one.

Indian Summer has been great around here, I appreciate it more now because I know what is coming. The young men who do my lawn and plowing came yesterday and all the leaves are gone except for what the wind brings. I went out in my kayak yesterday but could not go around the whole lake because the wind came up and the water got choppy BUT I got to out on the water and feel the kayak moving me through the beginning of the waves. It is like being rocked in a cradle yet I only really enjoy it when I am in front of my beach because there I do not have to paddle through them. My kayak is not the last boat out there because there are still a few diehards like me that wait until the last minute to put our chariots away for the winter.

Actions such as this one are what make our country great. It also makes me smile instead of being angry.

APPRECIATE LIFE

Beloved,

Well, Mother Nature had a surprise for us. It is not even November yet we had a snow storm yesterday which shut power off to many homes because it was wet snow which makes great snowballs but also sticks to everything. Many trees still had their leaves and with the snow, the limbs were much heavier than normal so they cracked. I think they really should put our power lines underground to protect them but then they might be hard to fix. Some genius will come up with something I am sure or perhaps all of our houses will have solar power and will not need the power lines. Winter would be a lot more fun to enjoy without the threat of loss of power.

I’m aware that my newsletter is later than usual but I just could not make myself get up out of bed this morning. Perhaps the storm had something to do with it but I am ever so grateful that I could give myself this extra treat of just lying in bed with nothing to do and nowhere to go and just BE. No noise, no sounds, just me and the warm bed giving me the comfort that I seemed to need this morning. This respite was not planned it just happened. How many mornings do you allow yourself to just BE instead of thinking of what you have to do or where you need to be. Try it, give yourself one morning, you deserve it.

This story touched me, he could not do what I did this morning and yet he always smiled and never complained. I don’t think I could do what he did and he makes me feel so grateful for what I have.

We got a mini taste of winter because this morning when I finally got up, the snow was all gone and we had 2-3 inches. The temperatures have cooperated with the fantasy of winter but we are supposed to go up to the 60 degrees in a few days. I, for one, will take as much warm weather as is given. I am not looking forward to winter and this small episode makes me appreciate much more the warmer weather yet to come. Has it put you into the Christmas Spirit? Halloween is yet to come,so enjoy all the holidays regardless of weather. They are special times for everyone. Our children savor them so much, remember our young times? Children, with their innocence, give us so much joy with their pure gusto for the traditions and celebrations that we create.

I received this email today and I have a special spot in my heart for the Story Corps who came to my town and gave everyone the opportunity to tell their story and get the gift of a DVD for free. I took advantage of the opportunity and my son Bruce asked me questions which I then answered. What a legacy to leave to your family. I wanted to share this organization in case you have never heard of it and they are giving you small tastes of what has been already done. Check it out! Enjoy! Celebrate!

This subject is dear to my heart. I too used the artificial sweeteners and they created havoc with my body. Because so many of you are unaware of these ingredients in the food you are putting into your body, I wanted to give you a heads up. I, personally use Natural Stevia in liquid form. Some Stevia products give an aftertaste so be careful to get the pure stuff so you will enjoy it.

ALL IS WELL

Beloved,

I just returned yesterday from a cruise to Bermuda. This was after there was a direct hit to the tiny island. On the way, the water gave us a lot of swaying yet the island was minimally damaged. Just some trees that were still down but the only thing that seemed to affect us tourists was the offered activity of snorkeling. The hurricane stirred up the water so the fish were harder to see and I think many fish had not come back out of hiding yet. My wonderful roommate, Joyce, did the snorkeling and remarked on it.

It was a fabulous cruise which even offered bumper cars. Do you remember them? Even though the waiting line went three quarters around the room, each person either watching or out on the floor in the cars were smiling. What an experience just to see everybody laughing and smiling. The kids loved to be able to drive themselves if they were at least eight years old but even the young ones with a parent beside them were joyful. Of course, I went on them and it brought memories of these bumper cars when I was young. Who would believe that a huge ship, Anthem of the Seas, would have bumper cars?

The food was so good that I gained 4 pounds in 4 days. What a treat not to have shop for the food, cook the food or clean up after yourself. Being a Celiac, after dinner I got to see the next day menu so I could pick what I wanted and they would make sure that it was gluten free. I had lobster tail, filet mignon, prime beef and salmon and dessert especially crème boulet gluten free. They had at least 6 hot tubs which is one of my very favorite things to do. The shows were fantastic; one of which had people coming from the ceiling and also from below the floor.

The only I missed the most was the quiet or silence. There is music playing everywhere and with 5,000 people, the noise level of the people talking was much higher than normal. It is like being at a party for 4 days straight and isn’t that what a cruise is all about. I did notice one small area on one of the decks that was so much quieter but I never found out why. It was so obviously less noisy when you got to that space that you really noticed.

I even got to join a tour around the whole island which was made especially for the handicapped. Our guide was so savvy and that bus being smaller than the larger tour buses, we were able to travel down streets that they could not go on so we were able to see more of Bermuda. We were only docked for two days so if we were to go back, there is still much more to see.

I laughed at the people with sea legs because as I was sitting on my scooter most of the time, guess what got the sea experience? In fact, today I still feel like I am on the water. I am experiencing the waves and the feeling that I am still on board the ship is more prevalent when I sit or close my eyes. It is nice to carry the cruise experience with you for so long. There was more activity that occurred but I am sharing only the highlights.

This is a favorite saying of me to me. When things get too chaotic, it is very calming because it is truth. Such as when the beginning of my journey to the cruise ship had many setbacks and the bus was delayed by people who were late and even after we set off, two suitcases had been left behind so we needed to wait again before we could begin. Some were upset but knowing All is Well, calmed me as I realized at a deeper level that there was a very good reason for the delay even though I did not know what that was, perhaps we avoided a serious accident by not being in the exact place we were expected to be at a particular time. Whatever, we arrived at our destination safely and all was well. I also use a shorter version and say Oh Well to myself when something is happening that I did not expect or choose.
