LOVE IS IN THE AIR

Beloved,

Well, we finally got snow, all 2 feet of it here in Wales. As far as snowstorms go, this one was big BUT we had no electric or TV outages. The kids got a snow day from school and finally have snow to play in.  I am literally and physically snowed in.  Our street is plowed but my driveway has not been plowed yet although I know the guys won’t forget me, they must be having a hard time at their commercial contracts to keep the snow off the parking lots especially with the wind we are having.  I can open my storm door a little but being on the lake when it is windy, it creates a whirlwind right around my house and deposits snow on my stoop even when it is not snowing. You should see the beautiful patterns that the wind has created.  There are parts of my yard near the garage where there is no snow and yet there are high drifts right next to those bare spots.  I still claim that Mother Nature is the best artist in the world. No one can compare to her.

“Finding Calm among the Storm” by Dana Mrkich sounds like a perfect article to follow the storm we just experienced.  In fact, it is a perfect antidote to ANY storm you are in the middle of.

“You have a Choice” by Ann Albers speaks right to me at this moment.  I am still snowbound but I can choose to fret or relax.  I have heat, food and all of my utilities, why do I feel isolated or abandoned?  I am not either of those things but the very fact that I cannot get in my car and go where I want to go has those feelings coming up. Is it habit or is a past memory?  I CAN CHOOSE to feel my mind’s wanderings or I can CHOOSE to look at reality and SEE that none of those fears are true. In reality, I am sitting in my warm house bathing in the sun as I write to you.

Tomorrow is a Lunar Eclipse.  A clip of what opportunities abound during this event by Sarah Varcas.

What an amazing exercise this would be for all of humanity to participate in.  This video would be great going viral on the media.

Let us all “Raise the Bar on LOVE” by Alan Cohen.  This week is the perfect time to begin. I wish you a HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

In honor of Love and Valentine’s Day this week, I offer these stories of the advancement of mankind, one situation at a time. Imagine what humanity could create if more of us came together in solidarity.  It is happening all over this planet right now. This speaks of the love that is in all of us even when we are not consciously aware that it is the reason behind all of the good in this world. Enjoy all the love that you do not usually hear or see on the media.   It is from Col Chris Hadfield.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

Beloved,

My favorite New Year saying:

As we enter a new year, please remember…
No matter what your present status in the Catholic Church,
No matter what your current family or marital situation,
No matter what your own personal history, age, background,
race, color or sexual orientation,
No matter what your own self-image may be,
You are invited, welcomed, accepted, loved and
respected here at Sacred Heart Church all year round.

This my priest says from the pulpit at least once a month but at Christmastime, there are more people who come to Mass so it is published in our weekly bulletin also. It touches my heart and the hearts of all who hear it and all that read it. I wanted to share this with you so you know that God has no favorites. You are all loved. Love yourself as God loves you, unconditionally.

Age does have its wisdom yet youth sometimes gives us a more simple answer because they are yet unspoiled by society.

As I sit here in my home in the sun, I realize that this time of the year brings about more concern over the weather. Last week we had nights below zero and the lake was frozen solid all across and yet for the last three days we have had temperatures in the 50’s. Yesterday felt like Spring, it set a record of 56 degrees and people were out in shirts. I went shopping just to be out in this beautiful weather and to also watch people as they came out doors. People were smiling and walking even more briskly. This morning I got up and the lake is thawed halfway, half is water, the other half is still ice. I did notice in the fall that the squirrels were not as fat as most winters and they are still normal. I take that as a good sign. I, personally, am enjoying this weather but I am afraid the ice fishermen are not. The skiers are all set because they go higher up the mountains and the snow can be man-made.

If this is a sign of 2017, we had better make peace with change because it is happening all around us and at a moment’s notice. We New Englanders are more used to quick changes in the weather and we have clothes to prove it. We live in layers so we can take off or put on to accommodate the climate. As for me, I never completely put away my summer wardrobe; I always keep something just in case. Yet people who live in warm climates are more easy going and go with the flow of life more easily. Perhaps it is because we Northerners always have our shoulders hunched up because of the cold so we are not as pliable. The warmer temperatures slow down the activities whereas the colder temperatures have us racing to keep warm.

What a fad I hope this turns out to be. Imagine that you would like someone to talk to. What an opportunity this offers because if you don’t want to talk, you don’t sit but if you wish to chat, just sit and someone will sit down with you and you just might make a new friend. At the least, you will learn something new you didn’t know before as we are all different.

HOW IMPORTANT ARE YOU?

Beloved,

As I am sitting here, I am asking myself what DO I add to humanity or the world. As you get older, you can’t DO physically what you used to do so you start to feel like you are not adding your energy self or your being to the human race and the part that you have always played in the drama of being on earth. Of course, I am speaking about myself but do you ever feel like this?

Here it is January, a brand new year and I am obsessing over what the future will bring. What will I DO now that no one actually depends on me for anything? I only have myself to BE concerned with and when I was raising three children, I would dream sometimes of having some time for myself. Isn’t life a paradox? I believe that young children are the best model for being human. Until society steps in and programs the young minds that they need to DO to be valued, they are having a ball just BEING. They are extremely valuable just as they are as they are unique unto no other being. Don’t they bring a smile to everyone’s face no matter where they are or what they are doing? I don’t care where you are or where you go, there is hardly anyone who will not smile at the small child, no matter who they are. Grandparents know this without a doubt.

But…you don’t have to be a grandparent to enjoy or smile at a youngster, they are everywhere. There are no barriers between the adult humans who are enjoying this unique being. I am kind of giggling at myself right now as the picture of a fat, toothless and totally dependent child brings such delight but a fat, toothless and totally dependent adult does not bring out the same response in most of humanity. The only explanation I have ever been able to give to myself is that the young child is a model of youth, a new beginning. Whereas the adult is a reminder to us of our fragility and the possibility that we might be that old person someday so we choose not to notice them. Maybe we could start a new fad. A fad of smiling at all humans but especially the older ones who hold all the wisdom garnered from their lives and who helped society become what it is so that we would be enriched by what they experienced in their life. The old saying:”BE in the moment” came from our forebears and that is definitely the wisdom I wish to remember. Let us concentrate on BEING rather than DOING.

My little hooded merganser is still here. The lake is more thawed out, at least for now, and it is busy diving under the water and getting its food. As I open the drapes every day, I have been looking to see where he is in the lake. It started me thinking about how this little duck is all alone, there is not another one like it around anywhere. They have all gone south for the winter. I wondered if it felt alone or was concerned about its future especially with the single digits here for a while and its food source would be under ice. In fact, as I write this, the lake closest to me has developed a film of ice on it. We do humanize animals especially in videos but perhaps this hooded merganser is a model for me to just live in the moment as the future is not here yet so there is nothing I can DO. It is also a test for me to trust that this little life is in God’s hands not mine.

As I was getting my coffee, I looked out the kitchen window and noticed a female cardinal at my feeder. This is the first time in 20 years that a cardinal has come because my feeder is designed just for the smaller birds. If the bird is as heavy as a cardinal perches on it, it closes the gate to the seeds. The female cardinal kept chasing away the smaller birds and kept going around the feeder and looking up as if to say: “why can’t I get any food when these other birds can?” As I watched, the male cardinal showed up and he also sat on the feeder. In a few minutes they both flew off but when something unusual happens with animals or birds, I go to my book Animal-Speak by Ted Andrews which is a dictionary of animal, bird and reptile symbolism. The keynote or condensed symbolism of the Cardinal is: Renewed Vitality through Recognizing Self-Importance. What a reminder to me that EVERYONE is important and has an important role to play even if they do not recognize it. I want to remind you that YOU have an important role to play and YOU are here for a purpose even if YOU don’t know it.

2017 is a Banner Year, The Year of the Phoenix and you are an important part of it.
