BACKGROUND HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN

Happy Halloween no matter what night you celebrate it on.  This has been a year of cancellations or postponements for trick and treating. I remember the Halloween of 2011 where we had feet of snow and were without electricity for a week.  The rain this year is easier to take, you don’t have to shovel it. I have so much admiration for and  give thanks to our firefighters.  What they are doing in California exceeds their oath of duty.  The work they are doing in California is momentous but they do momentous things every day .  Check this out – what courage it took to calm this little girl down.  Now, they are really MEN and HEROES.

Have you ever met someone who does not believe the Holocaust really happened?  I did and it was so uncomfortable.  How could someone not know about it?  Well, here is proof that it did occur and beyond that, anyone can check it out online.  What dedication it took to not only amass all of these records donated by thousands of people and relatives but the  humane devotion it took for the benefactor(Ancestry) who transferred them all onto the computer for all to see.  I picture so many people getting relief from grief just by being able to find their loved ones. DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?

There has been so much publicity about challenges ramping up for us to be aware of and let go of.  This week for me has been a doozy but I have survived and conquered.  I want to pass along a couple of tips to you in case you were not aware of them.  My house and car insurance come due at the beginning of November.  When I opened the bill, I immediately became very frustrated as the total had gone up another $100. I decided I was going to address this and researched and discovered that every year for the past 5 years, each policy cost $50 more each for a total of $100.

I fumed and sputtered and was going to call around to get new quotes but decided to call my insurance agent first. I did not know what she could do but I felt I owed her to talk to her first before I went with someone else.  To my surprise, she offered to check around different insurance companies and see what she could do.  I was not aware that she represented many insurance companies and was like a broker.  I guess I was still in the dark ages where insurance agents only represented or dealt with just one company.  To my surprise she was able to get me the same coverage for $225 cheaper on both for a total of $450. I wanted to let you know as you might not realize that your insurance agent is a broker and you might be able to get cheaper insurance with someone you are already familiar with.

I had an 18 month CD with my bank that was at 2.25% and I needed to renew it.  They offered me only .6% interest on the renewal and my first thought was that for that low interest, I would put it under my mattress first.  I checked around and got brochures from several banks and Credit Unions which were offering CD’s at 2%.  I went to my bank and told them that I was cashing in my CD and placing it with another banking institution and they offered to give me a rate of 1.99% to stay with them.  If I had not gotten the proof of what other institutions were offering and then showing them the proof, I would not have received their higher proposal.  Do not be afraid to ask for a higher return on your savings. So I will make a little more money by not remaining silent and just accepting what they offered me the first time.  Just a tip that you might be able to use.
