HOLIDAY TIPS FOR THE NEW YOU

Beloved,

I am wishing you a wonderful and happy Memorial Day weekend. We are having a heat wave so get out and enjoy the sun. This is just the beginning of the warm weather so we have a lot to look forward to.

I went kayaking this morning at 7am and there was already a gentleman fishing off the dock. I like kayaking when the water is smooth and believe it or not, wind or no wind, around 8am the water picks up its movement and there are more waves. Of course, if the wind starts up, then the water gets rougher. In fact last week, the wind was nonexistent when I started out but then it came up and it was in gusts which made it impossible to know where on the lake the water was actually quieter. I turned around half way around the lake and came back to my beach. Yet, yesterday and today, the water was great and waited with patience until I was back to get busier. I saw the first water lilies this morning in the cover. Pretty soon they will take over the coves and I will not be able to kayak close to shore in them. I am grateful that there are changes throughout the season. It makes it quite interesting to kayak around the lake and see what new things are added or changed. It is also fun to watch as new owners put their own brand on their new summer home. It is amazing to see what they come up with.

This will be a busy weekend around the lake as most people will be coming to spend it here. They will be cleaning out the cobwebs and getting their homes or cottages ready for the summer season. Most of the pontoon boats are already in the water but there are still quite a few boats and docks that have not been put out yet. On the weekend and the holidays, I usually don’t go out on the water unless it is early or if I do go out with the other boars, I stay close to shore and home while enjoying being rocked by the waves that are created by the wakes of the boats. Our beach is ready for its members except for the raft that will be put out this weekend.

Has this happened to you when you travel? I know it has for me but I never considered that fact when I “traveled in my inner world” but this makes so much sense.

I haven’t listened to Maureen Moss, the creator of World Puja, for quite a while. I know I struggled with understanding what she was sharing so long ago yet this time, what she said made more sense to me. Perhaps I have opened up different levels within myself. Give her a try and see if you resonate with the “Good News” she is sharing.

Facebook for the Senior generation.

For those of my generations who do not and cannot comprehend why
Facebook exists:

I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the
same principles.

Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell each passerby
what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the
night before, what I will do later, and with whom.

I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking
things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of
landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody
and everybody does every day.

I also listen to their conversations, give them the “thumbs up” and
tell them I like them.

And it works just like Facebook.

I already have four people following me:
two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist.

MEANING OF WESAK AND OTHER JEWELS

Beloved,

Are you enjoying the warmer weather? I AM. Of course the grass is growing faster but while you are outside clearing it, you hear a symphony of bird songs. I love that the sun sets later. I don’t always see the sunset because it moves behind the trees for 8 months of the year but I Am enjoying it now. In fact, I try not to be anywhere at sunset time because the sun shines in my windows, it even goes across my bed and lights up my bedroom. The sun comes in my kitchen every day that it is out but only in late spring and summer does it come in on the other side of the house. If I am unable to sit to enjoy it, my breath gets a little lighter every time I pass by the windows as it just seems to light up not only my home but my mood. A reminder to me to stay in this moment as that is all there is.

I have solved the problem of the squirrels eating the grape jelly by moving one of the feeders to a pole where I have sprayed PAM which makes it too slippery for the critter to climb up. I have another feeder hanging from the tree on a shepherd’s hook so I sprayed just the top part of it to see if it would work. The squirrel just slid right down onto the feeder and started to eat. I ran out, made a lot of noise and then started to laugh as he kept trying to climb back up the pole to the tree branch but failing. He finally gave up and just jumped off the feeder to the ground. I think he got the message because he has not come back. I don’t want to hurt the squirrels but they eat so much that I cannot keep up with the feeders. In fact, I was going out to fill both of them three times a day until one of my friends mentioned that she cuts an orange in half and puts it on the hook and when the Orioles eat the inside of the orange, it leaves a cup for more jelly. Now I only need to go out maybe twice a day. I thought those of you who might be feeding Orioles would like that tip. Even if you don’t have a feeder, you can put a half orange on a hook and use it that way. The Orioles are here for such a short time, maybe 3 months until the babies are strong enough to fly with them on their journey back.

Can you tell that I am a warm weather lover? I don’t want to ignore the hummingbirds as they are such a delight. They are here also and I have three feeders for them. This spring has been different with the birds and the squirrels. It seems they are hungrier than usual. I don’t know if our unusually warm winter did something to their food supply. The only thing I can figure out is that because the spring was much colder, the bugs were not out which is a food supply for the birds especially. Thank God for the birds that eat so many of the bugs that irritate us, especially the bats. They are the experts and eat the most especially mosquitoes and most people have fear of them because they are not aware of the gift they give us.

It is this time of the year where there are more humane stories of rescue. The single mother goose on my lake has joined with another family of geese. I have not seen them for four days but I am sure they will be around. Nature takes care of its own.

MIRACLE RESCUES – ANIMAL OR HUMAN

Beloved,

Last Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day, a mother Canadian goose showed up on the beach with her 5 babies. She gave me pause as I wondered why she was alone and no other adult goose was with her. So I watched her for a while but duty called. I kept being pulled back to watch her more. She could walk but her walk with one leg was deliberate. Her babies did not huddle under her wing; they huddled together although she was next to them. Then I realized that she was standing on only one leg. So I kept watching all of them. The babies would be moving away from her but she would move her head and then they would all scurry back to be closer.

I have seen families of geese every year and in fact, last year two families of geese banded together and became four adults and 10 little ones. That was fascinating to watch them take care of their own but still be one whole family. But this mother had no one. Usually the other adults, and we have about 20 Canadian geese on this lake, stay on the periphery because the parents do not want them too close to their babies. BUT THEY ARE THERE.

On Mother’s Day she was back and still had her 5 babies and was still alone. I found her once where her babies where huddled near the water and she was close to them on one leg and had her head in her wing. She was taking a nap. I could not fathom the immensity of the role she was playing. Then I realized what a model she was especially for Mothers on Mother’s Day. Here was a handicapped mother with 5 babies to take care of. Can you imagine if that was you? What a symbol for Mother’s Day.

During the week, she was back and another adult was with her but not too close, it looked like she was ignoring him. I have heard that they mate for life so perhaps she was not ready for another partner. This morning, my heart leapt. She was back with still ALL 5 babies and two other adults who had 3 babies. She now has an extended family to help her keep an eye out for any danger. One of my neighbors was throwing rocks near them to make a big splash so they would go out onto the lake. I found myself watching again. They all went a ways out onto the water but all 3 adults turned and faced my neighbor and let it be known with their vocal honks that they were not going anywhere. When they are threatened, they try to put on a brave front like saying: You can’t make me go; I will go when I please. When my neighbor turned and left, the geese just turned back and they went somewhere else on the lake. It is sad that they are not wanted but they make such a mess of the beach and even on the grass. Their poop is hard to rake up and it also makes a mess of the water and the beach. Have you found a way to keep geese away? If so, I would love to hear about it.

The beach that was in its purest and barest form is now being transformed for the upcoming season. Rocks have been delivered to help the boat launch be more stable and usable. The new sand has been delivered and is sitting on the beach waiting for the rototiller man to come and make it a smooth and soft beach again. Some kids are having a ball before this happens by digging in the pure sand and running up and sliding down and being kids with a pile of sand. The dock is not out yet but is waiting patiently to be put together to serve the boats and some fishermen. Plans are made to put the raft out into the water so the kids can swim out and then jump off. The beach is getting ready for the influx of people who are waiting eagerly for it to get warmer so they can play. It is fun to watch the changes.

I have been out in my kayak but there are not many boats out yet. A stray one once in a while yet most are the smaller canoes or kayaks. In fact, they are not actually in the water yet and most docks are not out yet. I have the whole lake to myself (except for the geese and ducks. This is the time of year that I can closer to the shore in the coves because the water lilies have not grown and taken over. Since the leaves on the trees are just beginning to come out, I have views of the houses that are usually hidden behind the trees. The whole lake has a different feel to it. I think that is what makes it so exciting to live so close to the water. The hummingbirds are here and so are the Baltimore Orioles. Usually only the cat birds and the Baltimore Orioles eat the grape jelly but a new animal has been added. I had to move the feeders around because the squirrels were cleaning out all my jelly before the birds could get to it. I even noticed a golden finch trying the jelly but only once, it seems to prefer its seed, thank god. Enjoy this Spring warming up where ever you are celebrating it.

Since I made so much of Mother’s Day models, I thought you would like to see these never die models.
