CHALLENGES & LAUGHTER

I just spent an hour and a half talking to Amazon.  Yes, talking!  It took me a while to find a phone number.  I had ordered a walker on 11/15 from Amazon and was sent a tracking number so I could keep track of its progress.  I got a couple of emails that it was on its way.  Finally I got an email saying they thought it might be lost so I could either get a refund or a replacement.  Since I already paid for it on my credit card, I did not want to have to pay twice for it sensing it would be a challenge to straighten that mess out.  I called UPS to find out what happened only to find out that they never received the walker so it was never sent.  Why was I getting all these emails of a late delivery from Amazon?  So I decided to call them this morning before I wrote my newsletter to you.

What happened next exceeded my expectation.  The young girl handling my problem kept excusing herself for a minute every time I had a question.  Well, I decided that I had a new trainee who was learning the ropes about customer service.  She was from another country and had a deep accent which made correspondence difficult.  I decided to be gracious and not demand to speak to a supervisor. I insisted on receiving an email confirming my refund and also the fact that I never received the package.  The first email gave me the refund but insisted that I return the package and how to do just that.  I kept repeating myself to her that I wanted confirmation of non-delivery and finally I got another email but this one just said they were sorry I had a problem with the walker (not the delivery).

After being on the phone with this young woman for an hour and a half, I finally gave in and asked to speak to her supervisor.  More wait time on hold.  Finally I got to speak to Joe who listened and suggested I reorder and when I persisted for more info, he admitted they had no more of that color.  I insisted that I did not want another color so please could I have an email confirming non delivery.  He said he would send it to me but I insisted that I receive it while I still had him on the phone.  He sent the email finally and then apologized for the long phone call and explained that she was a new trainee.  I had already figured that out and my ordeal is an example of the difficulties of two people who speak a different language.  I was wrung out emotionally from that so that is why this newsletter is a little later than normal.  This following video from Aluna clarifies why we humans are going through scenes like this that bring us these challenges.

This is a story and a video that I have watched it 5 times; it is that funny and that good.  You cannot help but  laugh  and this is just what I need now. Perhaps it will help you too.

Tis the season to be kinder to each other.  This woman goes to the top of being kind.  Perhaps this story might help each of us be aware of being neighborly and patient when we get stuck in the airport.

Do you believe in miracles?  I do and I am eager to see this be a natural event for all of us that need it.

NEW IDEAS & MEMORY LANE

As I sit here, I am waiting for the person who is going to transform my deck from a deck that is so dirty from the weather and so much peeling going on that it needs a scraping AND a sanding.  It was supposed to have been done by now but he ended going to the emergency room for pain in his leg which turned out to be a cyst.  I am excited to get his call which means he is healing and also my deck will begin its healing.

Although I sit here in the humidity and heat of a 90 degree day, it also feels like fall is very close by.  I realized last night that the sun was setting an hour earlier than it has been and my clear view of the sunset was not as full as the sunset is moving back behind the trees.  I also came to the realization that I have been as cooped up in the house because of the heat as I am in the winter because of the cold and snow. I am eagerly looking forward to opening up my windows and doors to let in “fresh” air.  It feels like I will really appreciate the fall this year even if it does mean we are closer to winter.  Aren’t we fortunate to have 4 seasons as we get to taste all that Mother Nature has to offer us?

My grandson bought a 1997 Lincoln Town Car.  When he took me out for a ride in it, I was amazed at how much our cars have changed.  It was such a luxury to sink into the seats in his car and it reminded me of how we used to sit three people in the front.  In fact, it had three sets of seat belts in the front.  His trunk seemed so massive to me but I do remember having that much room in some of my cars.  I thought you might enjoy going down memory lane  with me so I included a link that AAA has so generously shared with us.

I guess I am going down memory lane this week.  Has someone ever said to you:” I don’t know what this world and the young people in it are up to these days.”  It seems like we are having a harder time bridging the generation gap.  Here is wisdom from Abraham that brought the answer to that question so much clearer to me.

Children coming forth today have a greater capacity to deal with the greater variety of information that is coming forward than you did. They deliberately are coming forth into this environment where there is more to contemplate. This generation gap that you are talking about, it has ever been thus. Each new generation, every new individual, that comes forth, is coming with you having prepared a different platform for them to proceed from. There is this thing that gets in the way of that that says, “I’m the parent. I got here first. I know more than you do.” From the children’s perspective, and from the purity of their Nonphysical Perspective, what they are saying is, “You’re the parent. You got here first. You prepared a platform that I am leaping off from — and my leap will be beyond anything that you have ever known.”

This story gave me a different perspective on crows.  I know they wake me in the morning with their chatter as they search the beach in hopes of finding some crumbs that visitors might have left.  I never realized that they were so intelligent.  Enjoy this amazing story.  Wouldn’t it be great if all cities used them for a clean-up crew

LOSING CONTROL

This has been a week of surprises, perhaps proof of letting go of control.  That is a hard one for me as I have been alone for 28 years so being in control is entrenched in my daily life. Not that I do not have assistance from family or friends but on a daily basis, all decisions are up to me.

In just one day, I received a call from the leader of a motor coach trip to The Sight and Sound Theatre in Pennsylvania which is presenting “Jesus” , a production which has taken three years in the making and involving about 650 individuals in all phases of its completion. It is a very memorable and moving play which reaches into your heart.  It also includes a deluxe motor coach tour of Lancaster, the Amish Country and Philadelphia. I have known about it for 3 months and have been trying to find a roommate to go with me.  No luck so I finally released all expectation and then I received a call from the leader offering me to share a room with her and her husband.  Mind you, I have never met her but it blew my mind that she and her hubby would do this for me.  I accepted gratefully and am eagerly awaiting to see the play that I have been told is FANTASTIC, even grown men are crying during this play.  I am sure that Jesus’ Love will be on full display.

Then, the same day, I received a call from a beloved  friend in Maine about our get together.  I was invited to take a trip to stay with him and his young son some time ago but we have had things happen that kept us from that happening.  We now have definite plans and I am eager to see them again. I have wanted to get to the ocean so they are going to take me which will make it all the more special.  Since I do not have a smart phone or skype, I am sure that young man has grown a lot since I saw him last.  Another wonderful surprise.

My deck is not easy to look at with all the peeling of the paint and the dirt that has accumulated.  I thought I had solved the problem with a recommendation of a person who would paint it.  After speaking to him and his visit to my home to see if he could do it, I waited and waited for a call, none came. Another friend recommended a person who suggested Trek for a new deck and I spent a lot of time deciding the material, the color, etc. and the last I heard from him was a month ago so I assumed he was no longer interested in doing my job.  Then another friend has me check out her deck that was painted two years ago with Deck Correct and it still had not peeled even in one spot.  So, I called the person who did it and he came and inspected my deck and was going to call me with a price. Evidently, the telephone Genie was hard at work again and I did not hear from him.  I did try to call him and his mail box was full??? After thinking that perhaps he did not want the job either, I called him again the next morning and left him a message that I was concerned for him as his mail box had been full.  He was not aware that I had not received his message with a price and assumed I had hired someone else??? With all of our means of communicating, why do we have so much trouble communicating easily???? We finally got to talk on the phone and he is coming next week to power wash, scrape, sand and paint.  And….I get to keep my deck purple( Trek was not available in purple) as the man at the paint store is a genius and concocted a paint formula that gave me the Deck Correct in purple to match my shutters.

I was taking my grandson out to breakfast yesterday to celebrate his tenacity in going to court to get money owed him from the government.  He did not have a car so this enabled him to buy an old but beautiful Lincoln Town Car.  He gave me a ride in it and it was like going back so many years.  It is a big “boat” and is soooo comfortable.  It is like we used to have many years ago where the seats were large and you couldn’t even feel the bumps. The trunk is big enough to carry me.   I was going to use my GPS to get the best directions to the restaurant when he pulled out his smart phone for the information ( I keep forgetting that today, all info is in the phone whereas I have different items like a solitary GPS.  His phone kept saying the restaurant was in a different town then what I said.  So he called the restaurant and, sure enough. It had moved.  If I had not given up control and let him use HIS GPS (phone), we would have gone to the wrong place.  Boy, this has been a week of wonderful surprises and proof that I do not have to be in control.
