PARENTAL LOVE ON DISPLAY

Beloved,

We all know that our world is having a severe weather problem. Where
I live we have had the 2nd wettest June in History. The heat waves
not only last a couple of days but 5 and 6 days long and it rains
every day. I have never EVER said this before but I actually said I
wish summer would go away because it was so HOT and MUGGY and hard
to breathe. The fact that I don’t have an air conditioner (my choice)
made it even more difficult. I even went shopping for an air
conditioner but there were no more left. I would jump in the lake
2 & 3 times a day just to get my body temperature down.

It was quite difficult on the animals, my birds in particular. You
know I feed grape jelly to the Baltimore Orioles which they love.
I left my step stool outside because I had to fill the feeders twice
a day because I only gave them two tablespoons of jelly at a time as
the rain would wash the jelly away and I could never tell when it
was going to rain because the rain came suddenly like a thunderstorm
does. I need the stool to feed both the orioles and the hummingbirds.
Even my son mentioned to me questioning why I kept my step stool
outside, I had never done that before. I only need to clean and
do the hummingbird feeders every 5-6 days so I usually keep the stool
in the garage. In order for the Orioles to feed and have food for
their babies, I was out there at least twice a day putting jelly out.

I am mentioning this because it has been such an unusual summer and
even the birds at my feeders have changed. I could not believe my
eyes when a “young” Flicker woodpecker came and ate the jelly. He or
she was there every day and suddenly the Father of the youngster was
eating the jelly also. He was saying:”Son, I never knew this was
here and it is so good”. He usually eats at the feeder that has the
sunflower seeds. We seniors can always learn something from our
younguns. Because of the grape jelly I have Catbirds coming to my
feeders also and they also feed their young the jelly. Yesterday as
I was doing dishes, I noticed a large orange shaded butterfly at the
jelly also????? I get the hornets every year but this year I am
inundated with honey bees. I wonder if their honey will taste like
grapes? The bees and the hornets are a signal to me that the birds
will be migrating soon. The baby Orioles are coming to the feeders
and I even saw a parent give a young one an insect?, it looked like
it had a tan wing in its mouth before giving it to the young one. I
had never seen that before either. The young Orioles are growing
quickly so I know their time with me is limited now. Sigh.

Feeding birds really gives me an insight into family life. Both
parents pitch in to help and no adult bird will pick on a young
one at the feeder. The young ones are allowed freedom to be curious
and feed when they want regardless of any other bird at the feeder.
They know no fear so they do not react when another bird comes close.
In this vein of thought, I give you a link that emphasizes the love
of parents for their children.

Why not love yourself as you love your child or any beloved?
Can we oldsters learn from this youngster?

I hope you enjoyed these videos? LOVE does make the world go round.
SOOOO LOVE yourself and others shamelessly.

Guess where I am going now? Blueberry picking! Just up the street
from me is a small farm run by young parents of two children. They
have blueberry bushes that NEVER get sprayed so they are organic.
It was just last year that I decided to buy some from them and they
are the sweetest and biggest blueberries I have ever had. I have
not been blueberry picking since I was around 10 years old so I
am going to give it a try. I’ll think of you as I eat them right
from the bush. Have a wonderful day and week.

CAN YOU ALLOW ONE CHANGE?

Beloved,

I hope you had a wonderful and marvelous 4th of July. Did you get
to watch the fireworks? My daughter-in-law and my granddaughter and
her little friend came over around suppertime. The little girls,
4 years old, hard so much fun playing in the sand, making sandcastles
and then smashing them and then going into the lake to rinse off
and play in the water. The people around the lake compete in lighting
off their fireworks so the little ones kept squealing with delight as
each one went off. Can those little girls yell, it was such fun
to watch them see their very first fireworks.

Today was 95 degrees here at the lake so it must have been much
hotter at other places as it is usually 5 degrees cooler here than
anywhere else. That is great in the summer but not so much fun in
the winter. It all washes out and all things even out eventually.

A lot of people are having a 4 day weekend this holiday, hooray for
them. Yet I spoke to a person who was only having one day off and
she was thrilled with just that one day. One thing we can be
certain of is that there will always be change. Perhaps one day
we will go back to celebrating holidays with the whole family like
we used to. The world as they knew it was shut off for Holidays
and Sundays and they could forget the world and just enjoy their
family and sharing with their friends. I believe that will come
back again as we start to value our families more than shopping
and spending our money. If we are shopping than someone needs to
work in order for us to be served.

Check out this video. It had me mesmerized and when you see the
audience you will see them being very still. Enjoy. This little video is wonderful. It is a great example of the difference a slight change
can make in your life. Even a change that seems as small as the weight of a feather can clear away all that went before it and
wipe the slate clean for a totally new possibility. Perhaps consider
changing one small belief, expectation or concern and notice how all
of life responds!

My love to you, Jo Dunning

It is amazing to me the novel ways we learn so many things. I
learned a lot of perspective with this one such as the patience
she had and how one feather (word) can make the difference in
someone else’s world.

GUARDIANSHIP, UNCONTROLLABLE LAUGHTER

Beloved,

Hooray, the sun is out and is so beautiful, it just lifts my heart.
My lake had gone down some, exposing the dock again which had been
enveloped by the high water table. Then it began to rain again
which swelled the water table back up again. I was on the phone
this morning and said to the person that I was so happy that it
finally stopped raining and she said how her children were so happy
it rained when they were visiting some friends as they got to run
around in the rain and enjoyed it so much. Guess where she lives?
Yep, you guessed it. Arizona! It goes to show it is only a matter
of perspective. Sometimes abundance in any form gets to be pretty
boring. I guess we humans like to have change to stimulate our
gratitude as we can quickly take what and who we love for granted.

I am not sure if I have mentioned about the Canadian geese that are
here for 9 months out of the year. They are beautiful creatures but
they have one trait that is not desirable. They poop all over the
beach which is not conducive to cleanliness as the children play in
the sand and everyone needs to walk on it in order to enjoy the
water. We also need to get the water tested per the Health Department
regularly to check for any bacteria that would be detrimental to
human health. The geese excrement has caused shutdowns because
of the high level of bacteria. Since I am the the one closest to
the beach, I label myself the goose patrol but I am not here all the
time and I swear they know when I am gone because when I return and
they see my car coming down the street they vamoose.

I would like to relate something about the geese that I never realized
before, in fact, I never knew it until this year. The eggs have
hatched and the little goslings are growing rapidly. Usually the
parents are very protective and will not allow another goose to come
too close to their family. This year there are two families of geese.
One pair had 7 babies and a couple of weeks later another pair had
3 babies. The two families would hang around together which I thought
was unusual and then one morning I woke up to find only three adults
and 10 babies. I cannot tell which of the geese are the male or
female, all I know is that the parents of the 7 babies was allowing
the single parent of 3 to still hang around with their family.

That was not the usual way that they would behave. Yesterday, I
noticed the families and I was counting the babies to see how many
survived and all I could see where the older 7 and yet there were
3 adults???? I got my binoculars out to see what was going on and
my heart leapt. The three younger goslings were each closely knit
to an older gosling so I could not really see them until I looked
through the binoculars. It was like the 7 older goslings decided to
take the 3 younger goslings under their wings, so to speak, and were
protecting them. What a beautiful sight to behold. In the 17 years I
have been here, I have never seen the geese act like this. Is this
an omen that if the geese can do it, then humans will do it? Imagine
a world where the older children would take the younger ones under
their wings and protect them rather than bullying them and a single
parent would be adopted by a couple. That would be heaven would it
not?

Here is a story of an older human taking care of a younger one and
it is heart warming to see.

We all watch television and it is a great educational tool but this
story hit home about how little I know. I live on a lake and I
was never aware that someone drowning would not be flailing about or
yelling for help. Would you know how to tell? The way to tell is
so contrary to what I believed. I figured if I did not know how then
perhaps you don’t know how either. Perhaps you and I could save a
life just by watching this video and I know being on a lake, I feel
more responsibility to know how. My heart goes out to a parent that
does not realize their child is in trouble even when they are close
by.
