WHAT REALITY DO YOU WANT? CREATE IT!

Woweeeee! What a week and what a storm or should I say
storms. Since I wrote you last week I have had two snow
storms, the first brought one foot of snow, the second
brought two and a half feet.

Last Saturday night, I came home from Church at 6:30 PM, put
my car in the garage and then the garage door locked only 1/3 down.
The motor kept making sounds as I hit the button to close but the
door itself would not budge. I tried to pull it down and then push it
up (as it was too low for me to move my car out of the garage) but no
luck. I remembered that once I had to do it manually so I looked for
the cord to pull it out of electric mode. Since my new vehicle is a
small SUV, it was too tall for me to reach the cord without a ladder.
So I proceeded to get a ladder and yank on that cord. Still nothing.

I came in the house and called my oldest son, Steve. He is the one
that always helps me when I have problems with it . He suggested
that it sounded like something had jumped a track so I could use
a broom handle to try to and get it free. I tried that even though
I could find nothing to hit, I just kept hitting everything with the broom
handle, it worked for one half second and then froze again. He lived three
quarters of an hour away and he offered to come up and check it
out but I knew he and his family would be coming the next day to
celebrate Christmas so I told him I could wait. He asked again if
I felt safe with the door open and I told him that I would probably
get some cat visitors who like to climb all over my car but other
than that, I felt safe.

Sunday morning I woke to discover we had received a foot of snow
overnight. The weather man had not forecast it. I live on a private
road so the town does not plow our street. What could I do? How
would I get the street and my driveway cleared for my family at
10 AM? I called the two young men who do my lawn and also
do the shoveling and spoke to their mother. I explained my
dilemma to her and asked if her boys would be willing to come
and make the path clear for my family. They are contractors and
have only a certain amount of time to clear all of the areas they service.

Within 10 minutes, one of the boys (young men) was plowing down
my street and started shoveling my driveway and sidewalk. What
angels they are to me, they take such good care of me. I could tell by
the truck he used that he had interrupted his contract work just to
help me out. My family arrived safely as it seems only my town
which is on a high elevation had received so much snow. Of course,
you know I had snow in my garage also.

My son checked out the garage door opener and managed to get it
free but said I would probably need a new motor, or part. As long
as I don’t raise it so high that the lock engages again, I can get my
car in and out, opening and closing it manually. It is a Craftman’s
and someone from Sears will be here today to check it out.

We had such a wonderful visit with food and presents. They were
able to visit for two and half hours which was such a treat. To have
the whole family together at once is a rarity. His two older children
have jobs and school so they are not always available. The youngest
is almost two so she is always with them.

The Northeaster was predicted thank God, so we were all prepared
for it. The schools closed and many businesses. The snow started on
Tuesday night and continued all day Wednesday. Thursday morning we
awoke to two and a half feet of snow. It was the fluffy kind and the
sheer volume made it quite dense as the newest snow put weight
on the snow already on the ground and made it quite heavy. Of
course, Mother Nature was having fun sculpting the snow with
her wind so there were many drifts.

Yesterday afternoon we finally got our street plowed out but
I was still in seclusion because I could not walk anyplace
because although I had kept my stoop clear, the snow was much
too deep for me to be able to even walk. When it is higher
than your knees, how do bend your leg and knee to lift it up
to walk. Facing me as I stepped onto the stoop was a wall
of snow that was up to my shoulders. By suppertime last
night, my driveway and sidewalk had been cleared by my
angels and yet I cannot feed my birds. The snow is too high
to be shoveled to get to the feeders on both sides of my house.

I have never faced this dilemma before so maybe I will need to
somehow put the birdfood on plates or something that I can
just place on the snow. Fourteen years of living here and
I am still learning new ways to live here. This winter so far
has been a doozy and it is only just begun.

The lake is so quiet, there is no activity. There is actually
too much snow even for the snowmobiles. Being the
fluffy snow, you sink to the bottom so you cannot
even walk on it. No ice fishermen either. People were
using snowblowers to clear the ice on the lake when we
got the storm that was only a foot. It is now too deep to
be able to use a snowblower so I guess the activities will
wait for Mother Nature to either pack it down with rain
or the sun will eventually make it denser and less thick.
The dock is even under the snow, you cannot see it.

There were no deaths that I know of and many of
our people are sleep deprived trying to get our
community up and running again. Even the Post
Office was open during a Northeaster, can you
believe it? The mail was even delivered to some
places where the mailboxes were available.

There is another community that has come together
to honor their fallen. I am talking about Tucson.
This tragedy has brought our nation together again
in compassion and love, but why does it have to be a
tragedy to bring us all together? Learning about all
these individuals and their private lives, has brought
to my mind just how much good is created by
everyday normal people as well as the well known.

These fellow victim Americans represent the totality
of the USA. All ages, faiths and cultures were gunned
down in this senseless act. No one was “chosen” but in
a way, they were symbols of what America is all about.
I believe that is why our hearts were so touched and
our compassion went out to the families and friends
of these beloved citizens. Bravery of the individuals
who responded so quickly and without thought of
any safety for themselves are such a shining example
of humanity and its response in times of crisis.

I don’t know if you listened to the President’s speech
in Tucson but he gave a voice to what each of us was
thinking and feeling. A voice of the multitude of
people who live in the USA and the willingness to
help others in times of need. The grit and bravery
shown was not foreplanned, no one knew this was
coming so they responded from their hearts.

Here is the link to listen if you missed it.

?12 January, 2011 NBC News

I know there are some people who will see nothing
good about what the President had to say. They believe
he is only self serving and not to be believed. Just listen
to the words without any preconceived ideas and I
believe you will hear the truth of who we are as a Nation.
If you watch him and the people who have been touched
by this tragedy you will feel the love and pride that is America.

WE CREATE WHAT WE BELIEVE.

If we believe in the good of ordinary people and the
American Way, then that is what we will create. I am
choosing to create a country where the response will
be one of compassion for the victims and the honoring
of those who served in whatever capacity they could.
Without planning and only with the thought of helping,
let us be proud to be part of that American Heritage.

Let us hold onto the hope and belief in her country
as well as her aspirations to make a difference in this
world that Gabrielle displayed.

AND….A CHILD WILL LEAD THEM.

SHARE YOUR LOVE WITH THE WORLD

Are you “over” the holidays yet? It is a wonderful time of the
year yet it is also harried. Sometimes we are disappointed, either
by schedules or unforeseen circumstances. Or….worst of all,
disappointment in the interactions of our friends or family.

It is almost a catch 22 as this time of the year brings out the
love in families but also the jealousies and resentments. As
humans, we tend to think that others have MORE of what we
wish we had. Either more loving interaction with friends and
family, more glamorous parties to attend, more time to do all
we need to do, more money to buy more presents, more
decorations, more….more….more….

Why do you think that you are not enough…for yourself and
for everyone else. The simplest of celebrations sometimes
can be the most enjoyable. Everyone is relaxed and simply
reveling in what they are experiencing. The Holidays are not
simply one day. one “EVE”, one gift or even one person.

Actually, when do you begin preparing for your Holidays?
I shop all year. My children and most of my grandchildren
are all grown up so I do not purchase one gift for each.
I fill stockings for each. Throughout the year, as I am
going along doing other shopping, I keep an eye out for
small things that I think they would enjoy. Sometimes
it is a funny gift or something I heard them say they would
like or something I am guided to give them.

My children and grandchildren have no idea what is in
their stockings because I “disguise” the gifts. I wrap
each one individually and sometimes I am able to
change the shape or put it in a bigger box than it actually
calls for. Even after the wrapping is off, they are never sure
if the box is empty or if it actually contains what the writing
on the box says is in it. It was so heartwarming to hear
my granddaughter tell her son, my great grandson, that
Memere wraps things in ways or boxes that you can’t
recognize so expect to be surprised.

I have a grandson who has his own car now, so he has
graduated to getting a signature item….a coupon for a
free car wash. My adult children look forward to getting
that each Christmas as they know that their car will at
least get one car wash during the winter with all its mud
and salt. His sister is old enough to have a car but she
hasn’t saved enough for one yet, so I wrapped a $10 bill
in a very small box. Another signature item is a calendar
from my church that is actually like a lottery ticket. Each
calendar has a unique number and there are drawings all
year that give prized from $25 and up. Usually one of my
children will win at least once and then the stub is put
back in for other drawings. Sometimes they get candy, or
even small tools that are so useful in the “junk drawer”. Things
that you only need once in a great while but are so grateful
that you have it when you need it.

When I discussed Christmas with my children as the family
had expanded and I was buying toys for the young
grandchildren, they agreed for me to stop buying gifts for
them but the thing that they wanted to keep most of all was
their stockings. It is exciting to have a lot of gifts to open,
never knowing what it is,even if it is nonsensical.

I have also graduated to using paper shopping gift bags for the
stockings so they each can carry their gifts back home with them.

Would you believe that my little tree is still up and there are bags
(stockings) under it? My oldest son and his family were supposed
to come the day after Christmas. He fell ill while they were in
New York on Christmas Day and was hospitalized . He is still
recovering but at home. We are hoping to celebrate Christmas
tomorrow if he is up to it.

So you see, you can have Christmas even after New Years.
Christmas never actually ends. It is truly a state of mind. I must
say though, that it will be nice to put my tree away and for
things to get back to normal. I am looking forward to
sharing the Christmas spirit with the rest of my family tomorrow.

I sincerely hope that you had the opportunity to listen to
Jennifer McLean’s Predictions Week. It was great and
we did a lot of laughing as well as hearing all the great
things that will happen in 2011.

Jennifer did it again and she came up with the most
fabulous idea of creating a Healing Circle that all
of us can participate in. Just imagine the prayer
energy that we can send to the world as well as
to each other. You can make a difference. I
know I will be registering as I love the opportunity
of joining with all like minded people once a month
and making a difference in my life and the lives of
others.

Check it out here!!! I hope you will join us…

GIFTS OF KNOWLEDGE FOR F*R*E*E*

First let me apologize if you received two identical emails
from me. I send my newsletter to myself so I can verify
that it went to all of you and when I got up yesterday
morning and discovered I did not have a copy of it,
I began to search for it. With my expertise on this
computer, I decided that I must have done something
differently and it had not gone out to you. So I sent
you another one as I did not want you to miss the
opportunity to join in on New Year’s Day.

This snowstorm or blizzard as it was called, that
greeted me with a foot of snow was one of the
worst storms I have experienced here on the
lake in the fourteen years I have lived here. It was
not the amount of snow that was the problem, it
was the wind that worked so hard to deposit it
right in front of both of my doors.

I usually shovel my stoop right outside my back door
every two hours because I know I am in a mini whirlwind
and it just whips around my house. The snow piles up and
I cannot open my storm doors to get out or sometimes even
to be able to shovel. The young men who take care of my
lawn and also keep my driveway and sidewalk free of snow
came on Monday afternoon to dig me out. It was wicked
as the snow just whipped into their faces and wearing glasses
compounded the problem because you could not see out of
them. They said they would be back the following morning
to dig me out again as I mentioned I had a doctor’s appointment
that morning.

The following morning they did not show up and although I had
left a message, they must have crashed because they had been
working so many hours just to get people free. I finally got
myself out my door and proceeded to shovel. The wind had
whipped the snow as high as my railing again so I did not have
much room to work. Have you ever tried to throw snow higher
than you? The only way I could work it was to “slice and serve”.
I had to try to push some of the top snow off and then step on
my shovel to slice the snow so I could get some room to clear
the stoop and then the stairs.

Although the young men had cleared 4 feet of snow that the wind
had deposited in front of my garage the day before, there was still
a couple of feet in front of it again. I needed to get my car out so
I would slide a shovelful across the driveway and dump it on the
side. The wind had blown so much snow across the street
that I was not sure I could get through it. I checked it out by
walking on it and tried to shovel some off the top but by now
I was too pooped to pop.

I have a different vehicle this year, a 2004 RAV4 with four wheel
drive so I took a deep breath and plunged through. It went
through leaving very deep tire ruts and another rut in the middle
which I guess was my exhaust system? The town plows the main
road but never plows the snow it deposits at the top of my street so
another deep pile to get through. My car made it through and then
I discovered that I had on my computer glasses, not good for driving.
I did NOT drive back down but parked my car and walked back to
my house to change my glasses. Can you tell it was the first storm
with my new vehicle and I was not familiar at what it would do. My
other car would definitely not have made it and that is why I turned
it in for a mini SUV. Whew!!!! This is another side of living on the
lake, the wind just loves to come across picking up snow and
dropping it right at my doorstep. It also picks up the snow that
is on the beach and includes sand with it and I end up with brown
tinged snow drifts in my yard. There are huge places in my yard
where you can see the grass, I wish the wind would deposit the
snow there instead of on my stairs and stoops. Mother Nature
sure has a sense of humor and I try to match it.

There is so much happening this coming week. You know I am
