SOLSTICE DARKNESS AND CHRISTMAS LIGHT

Beloved,

Oh, the joys of owning a vehicle. I am thrilled that it has not snowed yet because it is making traveling easier. My mechanic is about 40 miles away from me but I have had him for 35 years and I trust him implicitly. We have had many journeys with my vehicles and he has always been there for me. We ladies need to be scrupulously careful about whom we believe when it comes to our cars because most of us do not know much about them. He does not do Inspection stickers so I need to go to someone else for that. One time I went to a garage for an inspection sticker and he said I needed some work done under the car (I can’t remember now what it was) and when I refused to let him do the repairs, he gave me a rejection sticker. I brought it to Teta’s Automotive in Chicopee, my mechanic. I asked him if I really needed that job done and he smiled and said I could have gone a while before it was necessary but since I had a rejection sticker, I had to have it done in order to get a new inspections sticker. Believe me, they were not happy to see me or vice versa, when I returned to get a new sticker. You have to bring it back to the station that rejected you!!! I have never returned to that station again.

Back to what I was saying before I got sidetracked. I took my car yesterday morning for its regular oil change and car rotation. Everything was fine but when I got on the highway to come home. The car would vibrate as if a tire was loose when I hit 63 MPH or above. I called and was told to bring it back this morning so they could check it and put the tires back the way they were. They re-rotated the tires at no charge and recommended a tire place to have a wheel alignment which I did. I was told that they needed balancing so we proceeded with that. He said everything looked fine afterwards but on the way home, on the highway again, the car started to shake more like before. I called the tire alignment place and he said to have Paul Teta drive it to see what he thought was the matter. I called Paul and he said since it wasn’t the tire rotation that caused it to begin with that he would have to drive the car to get some sense of what is happening. He warned me though that I might have to leave the car there for perhaps 2 days for it to be repaired as he knows I do not have any other transportation. He cannot take it for a ride until next Tuesday so I have a few days to find out where I can rent a car for two days. I love my vehicle; it is a 2004 Toyota Rav4 which has just gone over the 100,000 mile mark. I am REALLY grateful that there is no snow and I hope it will hold off until my car is repaired.

Episodes like this are reminders to me of how much I have to be grateful for and the people who take such good care of me. Here is a quote from Abraham that helps in frustrating times:

“A feeling of being overwhelmed is your indicator that you are denying yourself access to all manner of cooperation that could assist you if you were not disallowing them.

As you begin to feel freer regarding the expenditure of time and money, doors will open, people will come to assist you, refreshing and productive ideas will occur to you, and circumstances and events will unfold. As you change the way you feel, you access the Energy that creates worlds. It is there for your ready access at all times.

In this Christmastime, nerves are getting a little frayed as we rush to and fro to have a Perfect Christmas. Just know that it is you and your loving presence that is the most important thing that all of your relatives and friends like to see. BE YOU and the rest will flow.

Remember that Monday, Dec 21, is the winter solstice. It is the longest night of the year and the shortest day. To me, it reminds me that all of the darkness that is showing up not only in the weather but in the world is now on the way out. The day, the Light will get stronger each and every day so there will be less and less darkness. I want to you give you a smile to take with you until Christmas Day. Let’s shine the light out to the world each and every day.

INSIGHT TO GOALS

Beloved

To continue with the lessons of life I became aware of as I took swimming lessons. What a metaphor it has been for me and what similarities between water/life.

The fourth lesson is practicing what we have learned so that we will feel more comfortable and confident in our ability to be safe in the water. We went to the deep end, the furthest end of the pool. We were truly pooped by then but proud that we had made it. Life does have the ability to push us to our limits or what we perceive to be our limits. In actuality, by reaching the so called limit, we become aware of our strengths and thus know that we can go much further than we ever suspected.

The fifth lesson: the last one. I had been practicing every day and the problem I had was with the breathing while swimming with my head face down in the water. It was actually the hardest thing for me to do because we are supposed to breathe in the air through our mouths and exhale through our nose. I have been meditating for years and the procedure for that is the complete opposite of what I am being taught now. In meditation, we breathe in through our nose and exhale from our mouth. While swimming, I would get a mouthful of water and panic and then try to breathe in through my nose, thus only getting a noseful of water. After all the practice I had done, I came to a decision. I can swim and I can float. I had absorbed all the lessons except this one so I gave myself permission to do it my way. I keep my head out of the water although I no longer fear putting my head in the water (great feat) and I breathe the way that is natural for me. Life is like that too. Once you learn the basics of something, you then adapt it to being your own signature. We are unique so our signature (way of doing something) is unique and is the true beauty of this world. Our individuality is the key to everything. Do not be afraid to be yourself. I just might find that I will eventually do it both ways depending on what I feel like at the time. I have all my options open yet I will remain true to who I am.

We all need instructors to navigate our way in water/life beginning when we are born. There is no end to becoming more aware of The Great Instructor in whom we can put all our trust.

We are so fortunate to have these beautiful teachers along our path and Abraham/ Esther Hicks bears so much truth that we cannot comprehend it all at one sitting. Here is one that struck me to the core as I was completing the goal I gave myself to learn how to swim.

The reason for desires, goals…for finding those decisions or points of focus, is because they are the life-giving things of the Universe. Without objects of attention, or objects of desire, Life Force does not come through any of us.

Our Love,
Esther (and Abraham and Jerry)

Yesterday turned out to be quite an experience and the weather cooperated although heavy rain was predicted. I had never heard of the Buttonwood Farm in Griswold, Ct but they have grown 14 acres of sunflowers. You heard right, sunflowers. This week is the Annual Sunflower Festival and it is a sight to behold. With cooperation form Mother Nature, we were able to take a ride on a wagon to view this amazing sight. As we were getting closer to the area where the sunflowers were, I noticed what looked like sunlight coming through the trees although the sun was not out. They are that bright and sooo beautiful. They have them for sale and the proceeds go to “Sunflowers for Wishes” fundraiser. Also included in the cost of the tour is a donation that goes to the Connecticut Make a Wish Foundation. The young kids were treated to a ride in smaller cars that look like cows which formed quite an unusual train. The kids on our wagon train got to feed hay to the cows that came up to the wagon. Did they enjoy that! Guess what I had also, Sunflower homemade ice cream that was just out of this world. What a treat. AAA Pioneer Valley sponsored the tour where we actually started our day with lobster at George’s of Galilee, a traditional Rhode Island Lobsterboil. It was the first time I have had Rhode Island Clam Chowder made with a clear broth. It is ocean front so I had time to take off my shoes and walk in the sand and ocean for a ways. Like I said, it was an amazingly awesome day.

Have you been feeling like you want to sleep or rest more? I did but I was attributing it to being the summer weather. This article will give another perspective on why you feel that way.

WATER AND LIFE

Beloved,

Wow, isn’t the weather absolutely fabulous? It feels like we jumped from winter into summer with a long long pause in between. I am consciously intending to enjoy each and every moment as life feels so fleeting. Speaking about life, I am gaining a deeper understanding of life as I take these swimming lessons. In meditation this morning, I was given a deeper aspect of what life is comparing it to learning to swim. Water is life. That has many meanings as our bodies are composed largely of water. I discovered so many metaphors.

My swimming instructor gave me tools that help me navigate in unfamiliar territory. To learn to swim, you need certain equipment to make you more comfortable and at ease in the water. Earplugs are great to keep the water/life out of where it does not belong. We definitely need a meditation practice to keep the noise of life from our ears and mind. Goggles are a plus as you can see the water/life from a whole different perspective and you can see clearly where you are going, thus avoiding the obstacles that may be in your path. I always kept my eyes shut in the water but what a revelation it was to actually open them to see what was surrounding me. Does that sound like I put my head in the sand sometimes so I won’t need to see what is around me? YES! We all do that when we don’t want to face certain things. I am now more open to opening up to my surroundings.

The first lesson we learned was to put our face in the water and breathe out air from our nostrils, we needed to exhale bubbles. It sounds simple but it was very difficult for three of us out of the four students. It is terrifying to cover yourselves with a substance that does not allow you to get the air you need to live. Does life do that to you? Do you allow yourself to be so immersed in life that you don’t take the time to come up for air? Fear will do that to you if you allow it. You do have a choice and you can choose to look at that fear and recognize that you DO have power over it. It took me a year and a half to conquer my unreasonable fear of spiders but I did it. This is why I am taking swimming lessons to get over my fear of not having solid ground below me. I am seeking the freedom to not only be at ease in the water/life but to know with absolute certainty that I am safe in this world. I want to be able to be at ease in the water/life. We learned to do the dead man’s float while exhaling the air in our nose and our face in the water.

The second lesson we learned was to use our hands to push the water from the front of us to the back while moving our feet thus creating the power to move forward. Doesn’t that sound like life where if we do not push the obstacles (water/life) out of our way, we cannot move to where we want to go? It does not have to be hard to push either the water or life; if we relax we can move with the flow with very little effort. It is only when we struggle that it gets harder. At first we did not go very far but eventually we all reached the flags. There are flags above the pool which give us a goal to reach while still being in water/life that is not over our heads. What are your goals?

The third lesson was to gain some confidence while over our heads. The others were able to sink to the bottom of the pool and then use their legs to push themselves up and toward the wall of the pool where they could hang on. I could not get to the bottom of the pool because of my wetsuit so my instructor had to push me down so I could then move upward. What is keeping me from getting to the bottom of what is still an obstacle because of a crutch I am using? I needed help and trusted him enough to know I was safe even if I was being pushed into scary territory. We then learned to move our heads sideways to be able to open our mouths to get a breath of air while still swimming/moving in the water/life. I have to confess that I got a mouthful and noseful of water the first time and had to stop because I was coughing. Does that sound like the first time you attempted to reach your goal and it was not as smooth or productive as you had hoped? I still do not do well with this particular lesson but the instructor told me to be easy on myself and get more comfortable with this by turning over and breathing and then turn back to swimming with my face in the water/life. It sounds like good advice to put into practice with life and my goals. I think I am learning much more than just swimming for which I am grateful. I try to practice 5 times a week and that is helping me be ready to learn whatever the next lesson is. Next week will be lesson 4.

We all need instructors to navigate our way in water/life beginning when we are born. There is no end to becoming more aware of The Great Instructor in whom we can put all our trust.
