PRECIOUS MEMORIES OF THANKSGIVING

Beloved,

I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. It is one holiday that we can treat ourselves with good food whether you are alone or dining with friends or family. The very fact that we have food that we have not had to grow or hunt for is a reason for thanks. There is such a bounty that we can choose whatever it is we wish to eat. Except….real turkey gravy. I discovered this when I thought I would be alone on this holiday and my mouth was watering for turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy. I need to be gluten free so that narrows my choices. Although I could get real turkey in the deli, which I did, it never seems to taste like the roasted turkey you cook yourself, even the texture is different. I went to a specialty store and found packets of turkey gravy but after I cooked it, I could not eat it. It was so salty and tasteless. I had bought 4 packets (which I promptly threw in the trash), 2 for me and 2 for my son who also needs to be gluten free. I finally settled for chicken gravy bought at Stop n shop which was at least pleasant to taste. After a Thanksgiving invitation from my son for today, I decided I would eat the turkey dinner I had made for myself yesterday. I can’t wait to have “real” turkey and gravy though; my mouth is watering as I write about this. Although you can tell I like the holiday fixings, the thing I am most grateful for is the camaraderie of family and friends.

I am very thankful for you. You are a friend who I “feel” every time I write my newsletter. Without you, there would be no need for me to write a newsletter. Thank you for the opportunity to speak with you and share some intimate moments of my life while I pass along wisdom and laughter from others.

As I was in my morning meditation and prayers yesterday, I heard quite a ruckus outside. I finally gave up and looked out my window and saw geese, 48 of them, all squawking because a cat had come onto the beach. This is the time of year when the geese gather together and practice their aerial maneuvers and line up before they actually fly south together. The cats like the large kitty litter box but come especially to get a drink of water. Usually the cat will go to the edge of lake while the geese retreat further out into the lake. This particular day, the geese decided to make a huge fuss and I believe it was because there were so many of them, they could. Well, the cat did not get his drink but he was not about to show any fear. He stayed clear of the water and slowly sauntered across the beach and out of sight.

This is for the child in you and for any other children with you now.

This is for you to remember how you used to kick up your heels. It is mind boggling to me how this could possibly be done but I don’t know much about computers so there must have been digital technology involved. I was in awe the whole way through. What a way to bring so many memories together.

The heart of this child is a model for all of us adults. He is so nonchalant. He saw a need and did his best to fulfill it. In the eyes of a child, there is no color, no race, no religion only another human he might be able to help. I am thankful that there are souls in the world who portray this.

Here is a message from the angels and also from a human angel.

MEMENTOS OF THANKSGIVING

Beloved,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I am grateful for you, my reader. You give me the opportunity to share so much of myself, you help me to grow spiritually in all dimensions. My wish for you is to be thankful for yourself for without you, the world would be a very different place.

Yesterday as it was snowing, Mother Earth shared her creatures with me. The dabblers, the Hooded Merganser ducks came close to shore so I could see them even better with my binoculars. I have seen them a couple of times this fall but they are few in number, in fact only three have shown up. While I was enjoying their diving in and out of the lake, another duck appeared. One I have never seen before, a Wood Duck Drake, he was so beautiful. He was all alone and just swam by very slowly along the shore. Then, after I had done some cooking for Thanksgiving, I looked out and what a scene I was watching. There were 22 Canadian Geese standing upside down with their heads in the water and their butts in the air. That is something you see very seldom. As I watched this scenario, I noticed that there were smaller ducks that were diving in and out of the water. There were my 3 Hooded Mergansers and 2 other ones who turned out to be another favorite of mine, the Ring-necked Duck. This was the first time this year that they have appeared. These two types of ducks used to come every year with many more of their tribes but the last couple of years, they have been scarce. Then, a sea gull who I call Oscar was in the mix. I laughed as Oscar tried to grab the fish that the other smaller ducks were coming up with but they were too fast for him. They just dove under the water with their catch as he approached. I don’t think the geese were hunting for the small fish as I believe they only eat greens. I enjoyed watching them, pausing in my activities, as I know they don’t stay long. What a gift that was, a gift to be thankful for.

This morning I woke to a scraping sound and as I got to my door, the young men who do my snow removal were just leaving after clearing the snow from my stoop, my sidewalk and my driveway. I am all set to drive to my son’s house for Thanksgiving now. I am so grateful that it was done early so I would not have to be concerned about traveling on this snowy day.

I found this very interesting about the history of Thanksgiving.

PRE-THANKSGIVING GRATITUDE

Beloved,

What a beaaaaaautiful Expo last weekend. I was so thrilled to see so many of you and I am sorry I missed some of you because I was busy when you stopped by. Welcome to the new recipients of my weekly newsletter, it is an honor to serve you. I feel we are a family who continues to expand and welcomes others into our “fold”.

This also has been a week of variety with the weather. We have had freezing temperatures as well as spring type days. I had already done a complete romp around the whole lake a few days ago and it was eerily quiet. All the boats have been brought in and also the docks, even the last straggling raft has made its way to dry land. It was clear sailing with no obstacles, even the thin layer of ice has gone away. Yet they predict real winter temperatures on Sunday so we won’t forget what winter is really like. Yesterday, it was 45 degrees with just a slight breeze so I thought I would treat myself to a jaunt around the lake in my kayak. I could not make it all the way around the lake. Although I was wearing gloves, my fingers felt frozen and although I had a hat, it did not cover my ears, so they were frozen too. The breeze was soft but cold so it felt much colder than usual. I allowed myself to turn around and go around the coves which did not have as much wind and then I came back. I don’t give up until the lake is frozen so that I can’t maneuver. I know it is coming yet I treasure it even more now as I know the time is limited.

Thanksgiving is already just next week, are you ready? I try to make every day a day of Thanksgiving as gratitude brings so much joy. Today my older son, Steve. took his son Michael and I to my favorite restaurant where we are treated just like family. In fact, the owner sits down with us and chats just like we are. We were celebrating a belated birthday for Michael. She even hugs my son as well as myself and the food is delicious as always. They are Italian and use only fresh blocks of Mozzarella cheese for all foods requiring it, including the house burger which is messy but soooo good. We even started out with fried mozzarella as an oer d’oeuvre. AJ the chef has Celiac like me so he cooks my fish and chips in olive oil in a separate pan. Yummmm. the potatoes are not frozen, they are cut fresh every day and he uses a special batter that is gluten free for the fish. Today feels like we had a thanksgiving feast for which I am so grateful. Can you tell I am still experiencing it. The best part is I get to reminisce about it and then I have left overs so the flavor of the feast lasts a long time, just like Thanksgiving leftovers. The restaurant is Diane’s Villa Nova in Holland, Ma.

I feel like this little one, who is trying something new but she is all wrapped up and top heavy. My tummy is so full that I can relate to what she is happening to her. Smile, it is so cute.

I would have preferred to wait until after Thanksgiving to send this to you but the stores are now pushing Christmas before Thanksgiving by advancing Black Friday before Thursday. The tune is very catchy and the words are so right on. It is just a reminder of what Christmas really means and what we can do to stop the ones who are being forced or who wish to take away the real meaning of this beloved holiday.

I received this in an email from a friend who’s son-in-law was the driver of the vehicle. I watched it in slow motion with such awe that a human could survive. I know we are protected and I know the angels are hard at work to keep us from our own folly but to actually see this happening, I am awestruck. I will never feel afraid again after viewing this.

I am still so full of love after meeting with such beautiful soulful people that I have not completely come down from the experience. I wish to share it with you so you can carry it along with you on Thanksgiving Day to your beloveds and bring gratitude for everyone and everything in your life. Gratitude for being alive and gratitude for your beloveds no matter where they are. Be careful, smile, as you just might do what that little child did after you partake in the camaraderie and food of the holiday.
