FREEDOM FROM WHAT?

Happy 4th of July!!!! What symbolism this day bears.
We are free as a Country from the terrorism of other
countries and our beloved service men and women
are the reason for this freedom. We owe them a
debt beyond anything we can give them.

Today also brings up for me the many ways I am not
free. I am not free from the negative news that is spewed
across the airways, I am not free from the judgement of
my peers who differ in opinions whether pertaining to
religion or politics or health policies. But…..I am free
to say what I do believe and I am also free to make
up my own mind of the things I choose to believe.

The hardest freedom to attain is from the habits of the
mind. My mind is most critical of myself and my habits.
Other people habits do not really affect me directly but
the way I look at myself in mind, body and spirit does
directly affect me. I am more critical of myself than any
other person I know and I find it more difficult to forgive
myself for transgressions that seem to come upon me
without me even being aware of them.

Having ice cream is not a terrible thing, in fact, it is
quite soothing especially at this time of the year. Yet,
one eskimo pie leads to another and I can’t seem to say
no to myself after just one. I know better than to eat
more than one but it’s like one calls for more. I do
not even want ice cream other than when it is hot
outside and I would like the freedom to say no to
myself when my urges are excessive. We have all
had occasions when urges take us over so we know
the ramifications of giving into them. But….oh, that
Eskimo pie is so refreshing.

I know this is a small thing in the scheme of things and
I am grateful for the opportunities (after all, I do the
grocery shopping), I guess its OK to be excessive
occasionally. How many people would like to have
those opportunities.

I have just witnessed the most beautiful display of
fireworks. Remember I live on a lake which is
another thing I am grateful for. There must have been
all the boats from around the lake out there with their
silhouettes and their night lights on, it was a sight to behold.
Usually after sunset, the boats retire to their perspective
mooring sites.There were five houses who shot them off,
each one trying to top off the last one. They took turns
so it lasted quite a while.

I was able to watch from inside my house through my bow
window and I could see them all. I have a sensitivity to
smoke of any kind so I was able to be safe inside and
still enjoy the display. Another thing to be grateful for.

We as a country, have so much to be grateful for. We
take our freedoms for granted without even taking the time
to thank our fellow Americans for giving us those rights.
We have many ancestors to also thank for Our Land
of the Free. Let us take a moment to send up a silent
prayer for all the freedoms we do have.

Subject: The Last Post

We have heard the music a thousand times. Now we know
the history & the words. WOW!!!!!!
If any of you have ever been to a military funeral in which The
Last Post was played; this brings out a new meaning of it.

Here is something everyone should know. Until I read this,
I didn’t know, but I checked it out and it’s true:

We have all heard the haunting song, ‘The Last Post.’
It’s the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually
tears in our eyes.

But, do you know the story behind the song? If not, I think
you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.

Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the American Civil War,
when Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe was with his men
near Harrison’s Landing in Virginia . The Confederate Army
was on the other side of the narrow strip of land.

During the night, Captain Ellicombe heard the moans of a soldier
who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a
Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life
and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling
on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the
stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment.

When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered
it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.

The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and
went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of
the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying
music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling
his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.

The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked
permission of his superiors to give his son a full military
burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only
partially granted.

The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army
band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.

The request was turned down since the soldier was a
Confederate.

But, out of respect for the father, they did say they
could give him only one musician.
The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to
play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece
of paper in the pocket of the dead youth’s uniform.

This wish was granted.
The haunting melody, we now know as ‘The Last Post’
used at military funerals was born.

The words are:

Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes
From the hills.
From the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh.

Fading light.
Dims the sight.
And a star.
Gems the sky.
Gleaming bright.
From afar.
Drawing nigh.
Falls the night
Thanks and praise.
For our days.
Neath the sun
Neath the stars.
Neath the sky
As we go.
This we know.
God is nigh

I too have felt the chills while listening to ‘The Last Post’
but I have never seen all the words to the song until now.
I didn’t even know there was more than one verse .
I also never knew the story behind the song and I
didn’t know if you had either so I thought I’d pass it along.

I now have an even deeper respect for the song than I
did before.

Remember Those Lost and Harmed While Serving Their
Country. Also Remember Those Who Have Served And
Returned; and for those presently serving in the Armed Forces.

BREAK IN PARADISE

Summertime is here and it is glorious. Last year was a wash out
for enjoyment in the water, we ended up with only two weeks of
summer weather and then fall dropped on us early. This year we
had an early spring, early summer and we are all enjoying it to
the fullest measure.

The water has to be warm for me to go in and I have already been
immersed in it and it is only June. I live on a lake with full view of
the lake and the beach which is right in front of my house. I get to
hear the squeals and giggles of the kids frolicking in the water and
watch all the family activity that goes on at the beach. While I do
not have waterfront because I do not own the beach, I have a
million dollar view of the water and full access without all the
headaches and responsibilities. And….I have it to myself
nine months of the year. Am I blessed or what?

I have made a commitment to myself to fully immerse myself
in the enjoyment of my home in the summer and not to go
anywhere else for a “vacation”. I want you to know just how

MY STRUGGLE WITH TRUTH

I realize I am a little late in sending out this newsletter.
I received some information from a trusted source that
I had not been aware of before. I have been struggling
with myself whether I should send it to you or not.

I do not like it when truth is withheld from me. I know that
many organizations and even our government do not tell us
the whole truth. Their rationale is that people would panic or
become quite fearful. I, on the other hand, believe that the
truth should be told and we humans are quite capable of
coming to our own decisions even if we are fearful at
first.

We as a planet and a species cannot make informed decisions
until all the cards are on the table. Without the truth, many
erroneous decisions are made by well meaning people which
cause even more havoc.

I also have a deep belief that we as humans create that which
we fear just by giving it power over our heart. There is an old
saying: “What we resist persists”. We need to look fear right
in the eye and then decide what direction we will go in.

Another belief I have is that Love Conquers All . Love comes in
many forms and it is only through love of self and others that
solutions seem plausible. In fact, Love is the ONLY power
that will bring about change for the better.

I do not wish to create fear or give it any power but I need
to treat you with respect and ask for your help in this situation.
Let us as a people, realize that when we love one another and
have concern for one another that we will survive with integrity.

Right now, most of us are not in the area where the devastation
will occur but that does not mean that we can ignore what is
happening. What happens to one happens to all. Let us send
loving energy to our fellow Americans, seeing them as creators
of their own destiny.

Envision with me Mother Earth as already healed and the oil
spill as a lesson for humanity to create safer and more efficient
energy. Energy that is free from greed and corruption. God is
willing to help if we only ask and then believe it is so.

This is an email I received and I went to the links provided so
that I could understand at an intellectual level what is happening.
Please don’t let fear of what might happen cloud your vision of
what is possible. I see this as a nudge for humanity to put different
priorities into place so that we respect our beloved planet and all
the creatures that are upon it.

“You Are Desperately Needed”

“We ask you to cast, anchor, and hold the Net of Light (Crystalline Grid) steady for the Gulf of Mexico,” the Grandmothers said. “This crisis is affecting the entire world, and humanity is asleep. Wake up!” they cried. “Animals are dying, plants are dying, and your Mother is writhing in agony. If you hold the Net of Light steady at this time you will help stave off further catastrophe.

“You have been lulled into a false sleep,” they said, “told that others (B.P.) will take care of this problem. This is not so,” they said. “And this is not the time for you to fall into oblivion. Determine now to stay awake, and once you have made that commitment, think of, cast, and hold the Net of Light. Hold it deep and hold it wide. Amplify its reach to penetrate the waters of the Gulf and dive deep beneath the crust of Mother Earth. Anchor it at the earth’s core and as you hold it there, ask it to unify with the mineral kingdom of this planet. It will do this and will harmonize with all the solid and liquid mineral states on earth-including oil and gas. The Net of Light will call these minerals back into harmony.

“Whatever human beings have damaged, human beings must correct,” the Grandmothers said. “This is the law. We repeat: This is the law. You cannot sit back and ask God to fix the mess humanity has created. Each of you must throw your shoulders to the wheel and work. We are asking for your help. Several years ago we gave you the Net of Light so you would be able to help the earth at times like this. Step forward now. “First move into your heart and call on us. We will meet you there. The Net of Light is lit by the jewel of your heart,” they said, “so move into this lighted place within you and open to the Net of which you are a part. Bask in its calming presence. It holds you at the same time that you hold it.

“Now think of magnifying your union with us. We, the Great Council of the Grandmothers, are with you now, and all those who work with the Net of Light are also with you. There are thousands, even millions now connected in light,” they said. “Along with this union, call forth the power of the sacred places on earth. These will amplify the potency of our joint effort. Then call on the sacred beings that have come to prevent the catastrophe that threatens to overwhelm your planet. We will work together,” they said, nodding slowly.

“Think of, cast and magnify the presence of the Net of Light in the Gulf of Mexico. See, imagine or think of it holding the waters, holding the land, the plants, the sea life, and the people. Holding them all!” they said. “The Net of Light is holding them steady; it is returning them to balance. Let the love within your lighted heart keep pouring into the Net of Light and hold, hold, hold. Calmly and reverently watch as the light from your heart flows along the strands of the Net. It will follow your command and continuously move forth. As soon as you think of it, it will happen. We ask you to practice this for only a few minutes at a time, but to repeat it throughout the day and night.
