I realize I am a day early with the newsletter but it is
today or Monday. Springtime brings a busyness that
is a preparation for the relaxing time of summer, hopefully.
I am in awe of the possible changes in the basic daily
life that we take for granted. How many things do you
take for granted? I personally love habit as it frees me
from having to remember the step by step actions
necessary to accomplish what I am setting out to do.
Just think of all the steps you go through just to brush your
teeth or actually eat your food. If you had to think of every
motion separately and then do it,you would never get done.
I have needed a new refrigerator for a couple of years and
have been looking at them off and on when I get to a store
that carries them. Something I was not aware of until my
oldest son brought it to my attention, was that now you have
the option to have the handle of your refrigerator on either
side so you can open the door from either side. You have a
CHOICE. I did not know I had THAT choice. My
refrigerator had always offered me that opportunity but
I was blind to it.
How many choices do you have that you are not aware of?
You can’t know what you don’t know! I wonder how many
new things I am not aware of that are in existence but I am
simply in ignorance of?
For the last 14 years I have been opening the door to my
refrigerator with the handle on the left side of the door so it
would swing open with the entire door in my way to place
anything in the sink or on the counter. The door handle could
have been switched to the right side and the door would
have opened to the left thus creating a wide opening to the
counter and sink where it would have been so easy. Come to
think of it, I have ALWAYS had my door handle on the
left.
I had been doing it the hard way and wasn’t aware that there
was a better way. How many times do we do things the hard
way because we are not open to a NEW way? It is exciting
to realize that this world is so full of new things and ideas.
Each day we could learn something that would make life
so much easier if we only let ourselves not settle into
routine. Let’s make an intention to be more aware of what
is right around us.
I now have a new refrigerator that opens from the right and
it is an exercise in remembering. I automatically go to the
left to get the handle and suddenly it is not there. I need to
create another habit yet I hope to remember to keep my
awareness alert to other “new’ things that I am not yet
aware of. A curious mind will always find new things
that abound and if not, it will create something new.
Is that the secret to staying young? A child is always
curious as life is so new, let us be like a child.
