CHILDLIKE GLEE

Beloved,

I know I am a little later sending out my newsletter.  Every morning before 8am, the water is like a mirror which is when I like best to go kayaking.  Of course, at this time of the year, it is much colder before 8am so I will wait until summer to go out at that time.   This morning, as I sat down to do my newsletter, I happened to look out the window and the lake was still calm.  This is rare.  Even yesterday, the lake switched every 15 minutes from being calm to being rough???/

I just could not resist so I prepared to go out and still the water was calm. I have a new smaller kayak which I took out 2 days ago for a checking it out jaunt, I did not go all around the lake. I have used my sea kayak the last 20-25 years but it is now too heavy for me to handle so I have been looking for a smaller and lighter one.  I found one and I have been eager to try it out.

Would you guess the name of its color is Ocean Berry?  On the ad, it looked blue so I had to ask the manager if this was the one on sale.  To my surprise it was, so now I have turquoise kayak with purple marbling. Remember I have been used to the sea kayak and this one feels completely different.  The water can really move this new one around and even the rowing is different. My sea kayak always remains straight until I choose which way I want to go, the new one swivels from one side to the other as I row and the current moves this one around a lot more. Today I tried my old paddle but it still swishes around so it was not my new paddle.  At least I don’t think so, but the new one is shorter than the old one. One of the people who I stopped to talk to suggested getting a rudder which will keep it moving straighter.  There is still hope.

Can you tell I am just trying something so new but at least I was in the water? I can put it up and take it down from the kayak rack much more easily and it is also easier to get into.  Getting out, is another story but I am playing with it and I am sure I will get used to getting in and out without getting my feet and legs so wet.  Being out in the water was sooo great, I even went around the whole lake.  Right now, there are no leaves on the trees and most of the people have not got their boats, barriers, and floats out so it has a different look and feel.  I saw a couple of people out so I stopped and talked to two of them who were anxious to talk. When the season gets busier, so will the people with all their guests and family. I got to kayak in the reflections of the trees and the clouds, what a feeling that is.

Eckhart Tolle has a meditation on: “What really Matters.”  It really is good and a great reminder to live in the moment which I did when I chose to go kayaking instead of getting down to business.  I am glad I did and now I can share that childlike glee with you.

Talk about being child like, here is a dog that definitely fits that mold. You can’t help but smile.

I can’t help but giggle when I saw this.  Isn’t it wonderful that humanity is respecting the wildlife?  I bet the people stuck in cars smiled and cheered also.

I am still feeling like a child.  What child has not chewed gum and just thrown it on the ground? Can you believe what tools science has to get all the info they did?  It blew my mind to find out how that wad of gum told us so much about our ancestors.

This is exciting news, now we won’t feel guilty for enjoying and appreciating what plastic has done for us human. Who would have thought?

Love and Light
