ARE ILLUSIONS REAL?

I have been pondering on how to explain or put into words the AHA
moment I had when I was kayaking this week. Have you ever tried to
explain to someone something you “felt” or “spiritually experienced”
but yet had no words to express?

I love to kayak as you know and my favorite time to do that is when
the water is perfectly still so it feels like I am actually floating
in glass. There is no wind to push me but there is no wind against
me either. As I am in the water, I can see the mirror image of the
trees, the homes, or whatever else is in the water and it gives me
an eery feeling because the depth perception is off as it gives you
a “double”. As above so below. The docks are twice as deep or high
depending on how you look at it. The boats give you an eery feeling
as you actually see it differently than you are used to.

I have experienced gliding through the trees’ image or even the
house image which is disconcerting to say the least but this time
I got a whole different view of what was happening. I deliberately
aimed my kayak at the images in the water and, lo and behold, the
images kept moving away from me. I was unable to glide “through”
because as I moved, the image moved away. It was always just beyond
my physical reach???? Was it because one side of the lake was in full
sun while the other side was in the shadows?

The closer I got, the smaller the mirror image got. It was as if my
mind was playing with me. I was never able to actually touch the
image with my kayak. The only rational explanation I came up with
was that it had something to do with the sun which was creating
the shadow image although with the still water, the image was as
clear as the so called “real” thing.

I really felt like I was in an illusion and suddenly was hit with
the realization that life itself is an illusion. This has been said
by many spiritual people and I know we can change the “illusion” by
simply changing our perspective about the situation. Everything is
in our mind as our mind is what creates our reality. Huh?????

How many people have said that life “is only a dream”. When you are
in a dream, it FEELS so REAL! Sometimes you wake up and have a hard
time waking up as you can still FEEL what you were dreaming about.
Was it an illusion? How do you know? Are our dreams the REAL reality?

Our bodies respond to dreams just as if it was actually happening
for real. How many times are we told to live our DREAMS? Our
imaginations (minds?) feel real and it is the ticket to fulfilling
our dreams. It is the stuff that makes our dreams come true in this
physical reality. In fact, our bodies respond to our thoughts (dreams?)
just as if it was happening in reality.

Am I confusing you? I am confusing myself. There is so much to life
and living that our mere mortal minds cannot grasp. Then there is
the heart where all our wishes are. If we respond with our hearts,
true reality is created. When we love, all is possible.

How many miracles have you heard of that happened because of Faith,
which is actually believing in something that is not seen but which
we know exists? I cannot see the wind yet I know it exists because
I “see” the effects of it. I believe in miracles and I know they are
created with LOVE. I know that my mind is what creates FEAR.

My eyes were playing with my mind of what I had believed to be true.
How many times do we think we see something that turns out not to be?
Just watching the birds fly over the water and suddenly they disappear,
or should I say, I can no longer see them but my mind tells me that
they still have to be there as there was no way for them to disappear.
Somehow they were in a “space” that my eyes could not see them but
they were still there in flight. I believe that is an optical illusion.
There is the word illusion again. How many illusions do you believe
to be true and yet are not?

Can you tell that my eyes were playing tricks on me but it sure sent
my mind into delving into the questioning vs the logical side of
what had happened. How many illusions do we believe that are simply
not true to our logical minds? Isn’t life mysterious? Just when
you think you have all the answers, life shows you another side of
the same thing.

I would love to hear from you if you ever experienced such a
situation and what was your conclusion. I think I “understood”
the deeper meaning while it was happening to me but now that I am
back on land, it almost feels like a dream.

I read an article that the reason we do not like the pictures
that are taken of us is because we are used to seeing our reflection
in the mirror which is not how others see us. When we look at a
picture of ourselves, it is how other people actually see us. The
picture shows us the side of our face on the other side of what we
see in the mirror so it is disconcerting to us and not familiar.

When I watched this video, it sent me into laughter. It is a play
between what we “know” and what actually happens in our minds.
This is meant for those with distinctive, mature tastes. It’s quite
entertaining and it gets better as it continues.

Not only that, but a whole lot of us can relate to this, as you’ll
see…

Enjoy!

Take a look at this. Turn up the volume.
